Airbus, a corporation that designs, manufactures and sells civil and military aeronautical products worldwide just took a great step forward and moved from Microsoft 365 to G Suite from Google. The European aviation giant 130,000-strong workforce will soon get access to the benefits of the world's best productivity office suite and the most widely used search engine at their fingertips.
This is not just a major win to Google and all the partners involved, but also a great show of just how G Suite can transform the way you work.
“Choosing G Suite is a strategic choice, a clean break from the past while assuring business continuity. Let’s embark together on this journey towards a truly collaborative enterprise.” Tom Ender said.
Airbus CIO, Luc Hennekens said, “Our move to G Suite was not influenced by cost. If cost was the factor (Ender, CEO) would not have been interested in this. The driver, says Hennekens was, “better collaboration and higher agility rather than some short-term cost-saving.”
Airbus will organize its information around “teams, topics and programmes” and let people go to the information that they need for their jobs...almost the opposite from an environment that is based on email where you receive whatever it is that others decide you can receive.”
"It is not about the cost, the driver for the switch was better collaboration and higher agility rather than some short-term cost saving."
This transformation will take about 18 months and Airbus is also planning to train their 130,000 global staff team on how to use G Suite Apps.
“Our move to G Suite will drive real transformational change from the grassroots up, enabling connections between employees like never before,” added Hennekens. “It will give our people the tools to work in a way which is more natural, more collaborative and much more enjoyable.”
When approached for a comment, BusinessCom’s CTO, Mulunda Kisika said, “From our point of view, this is a great win for Google and all partners involved. It is not just about the pricing of either G Suite or Microsoft offerings, but in its deepest core, it is about transforming how we work, increasing our productivity as well as fostering innovative collaboration for businesses, particularly Small and Medium enterprises. G Suite offers a great return when you consider the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of any email platform and their features.” He says that local companies and even beyond the region should embrace the transformation that is brought by innovative workplace platforms like G Suite.
When approached for a comment, media houses including The Register says that, Microsoft ‘politely declined’ to comment on the matter.
