The Airbnb Story - Leigh Gallagher(?????)
Book 2 in 2021
I’ve been low key fanatic about the AirBnb story for many years now. I’ve obsessively watched every Brian Chesky interview, talk, lecture, guest appearance, conversation and pretty much read everything else he’s said publicly over the years. And even though I already knew everything that was in this book, I read it anyway, twice.
Brian and Joe changed things. They were the “outsiders” in an industry and a valley notoriously infamous for their tech mafia. They were so clueless about the rules that they pretty much broke every single one of them and as a result re-wrote them for the decade to come. If you’re entrepreneurial, if you enjoy building things, if you enjoy disruption, this is a must read book for you. Pair it with Reid Hoffman’s Blitzscaling lectures at Stanford and you will learn more than you signed up for.
I don’t know if I can be very objective about this book given that I’m a huge fanboy; but I will definitely say that this is a book I can read over and over again and learn something new every time I do.
p.s. Reid’s course is easily one of the best things Stanford shares on the public internet. Peter Thiel taught this class when I was at grad school but I have to say Reid is soooooooooo much better. MUST WATCH.
