Air Source Heat Pump - the “Rising Star” in U.S. and Ireland

Air Source Heat Pump - the “Rising Star” in U.S. and Ireland

Air-to-water (air source) heat pumps run on free outside air heat and electricity instead of fossil gas and heat up to three times more efficiently than gas furnaces. Among them, in addition to heating for long winter, the three-in-one function heat pump can also act as an air conditioner in the summertime and a water heater throughout the year, becoming a comprehensive family heating solution.

The technology is widely rolled out in new buildings and retrofits to phase out and replace traditional energy heaters, thereby reducing people's energy bills and the world's carbon emissions.

With the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2030, the world sees heat pumps as the 'next generation' of efficient and clean home heating because they have been proven to be more efficient, use less energy, and have a lower carbon footprint than other methods.

U.S. heat pumps outsold gas furnaces in 2022

As shown in the chart below, the total sales of heat pumps in the United States in 2022 exceeded 4 million units, and the sales volume of gas furnaces was less than 4 million units. This is the first time heat pumps outsold gas furnaces. Moreover, there is a significant gap between the two in terms of sales.

That's a good sign that more and more Americans are willing to install heat pumps for their homes. In northern regions, residents urgently need a stable heating supply to survive the long winter, and heat pumps with high energy efficiency, energy savings, and the ability to provide comfortable space heating are the perfect solution.

Ireland €6500/unit grant for air-to-water heat pump

SEAI is Ireland's national sustainable energy agency, working with households, businesses, communities, and government to create a cleaner energy future. In order to keep pace with the urgent deployment of clean energy applications, it provides grant support for the first installation of heat pumps and home retrofits using heat pumps by increasing the installment from €3,500 to €6,500 Euros per air-to-water heat pump in 2023.

The Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (Deputy Eamon Ryan)?states on 7 March 2023, “It is important to note that local authority retrofits and heat pump installations are in addition to the figures provided here. ”

Also, “My Department is working with SEAI to build on the strong performance of 2022. A record €356 million in funding has been allocated to SEAI for residential and community retrofit for 2023 to support the delivery of 37,000 retrofits this year”.

In addition to the United States and Ireland, the sales growth of heat pumps in other countries is also obvious, especially the countries in the European region. They are world leaders in heat pump imports and applications and have a long history of balancing a good living environment and economy. Since Russia started the war in Ukraine, the world has had to accelerate the replacement of green heating energy to end its dependence on fossil gas.
