Air Products Driver in Liberal, Kansas Earns 2 Million Mile Safe Driving Award

The Best Defense is a Good Offense

"The best defense is a good offense" is an old adage that has been used in sports, martial arts and military combat. It can also be applied to safe driving according to one Air Products truck driver. Mark Gunderson (right) at the Liberal, Kansas terminal says, "Always be a defensive driver, use the Smith System 5 Keys to Safe Driving and listening to what others have to offer that will make you a better and safer driver." Mark, who joined the company in 1996, recently achieved his 2 Million Miles Safe Driving Award.  It's his second award from a longtime commitment to safety — he also achieved one million safe miles in 2006. And it appears his defensive driving is good for his whole team.

"The Liberal terminal is a team operation. Mark not only runs with a co-driver coast to coast and boarder to boarder but he is the ultimate team player," said Rick Prater, site supervisor. "There isn't anything that Mark isn't willing to do. If he has the hours to work he'll do it without any complaints or questions. He is our go-to guy when we need a new driver trained. Mark knows all the 'in's and out's' of team driving. He is a very valuable asset to the operation here and I'm proud he's on our team." 

The Liberal drivers travel all over the 48 states and Canada safely delivering liquid helium, bulk helium and nitrogen to their customers.
