Air China A20N Engine Fire and Evacuation in Singapore
On September 10th, 2023, an Air China Airbus A320-200N, registration B-305J, en route from Chengdu, China to Singapore, declared an emergency due to indications of smoke in the forward cargo hold and lavatory. After landing on Singapore's runway 20L, the aircraft was evacuated using all available slides, leading to 9 passengers sustaining minor injuries from smoke inhalation and abrasions. The incident, which involved extinguishing a fire in the left-hand engine (PW1127G), resulted in a 3-hour closure of the runway, as confirmed by Singapore's Civil Aviation Authority. FAA Seeks Recommendations on Cockpit Alert Technologies
On Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reached out to a panel of specialists to offer guidance on cockpit technologies aimed at warning pilots of impending incorrect runway or taxiway landings. The initiative signals the FAA's potential move towards mandating such alert systems, driven by an intent to minimize near misses that have been a concern in the aviation sector this year. In relation to this, an advisory committee gathering is scheduled for 29 September, with the FAA's administrator for aviation safety, David H. Xejet Resumes Operations After NCAA Suspension Lift
Xejet, based in Lagos, Nigeria, has received clearance from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to resume operations after resolving insurance compliance issues concerning EMB-145LR 5N-BZM, a unit previously sold to Kanem Air. The airline's air transport license (ATL) and air operator's certificate (AOC) are now fully reinstated, with the AOC only having been suspended awaiting Xejet's response to an NCAA query.
