We actually never had it easy .. But heck !!. We always have have had a LIFE.... 

Nina Simone (b 1933).. muse for me, inspiration and voice of the downtrodden 

High Priestess of Soul, she was was thrown out of Julliard as she was too poor to pay the fee for her semester .. goes on to play in a nightclub and other musicians wouldnt play with a colored musician. 

Too bad we would assume , but not for Nina. Not one to give up, she started singing to her own accompaniment and turned the tables not only on those who dared to look down on her race but also her own station in life .

A talent so deep , almost spiritual and one with her music .Her songs still ring an echo of hope and reconciliation . 

Would highly recommend to check out her entire discography and also her struggles and triumphs. Check out her live performances particularly at Montreux Jazz festival but here is a personal favourite .
