AI/ML democratization by Pearson, Forecast, Amazon, Eleos Health and GetInData at Data Mass Gdańsk 2023

Data Mass Gdańsk 2023 is fast approaching. Please save the date - October 5th, 2023, the Conference Center of Museum of The Second World War in Gdańsk.

The conference has an impressive lineup of presentations, with over 40 speakers delivering 25+ talks.

One of the central themes revolves around AI & ML. In this article, we'll shed light on presentations by companies such as Pearson , Forecast , 亚马逊 (Alexa), Eleos Health and GetInData | Part of Xebia .

AI-driven education with responsible AI becomes a reality

Education is an industry that can be fundamentally impacted by AI, especially Generative AI, or more specifically Conversational AI. Imagine a tutor who is teaching you English or economy or even both, and she speaks to you with personally-selected vocabulary, adapting the speed of lessons to your progress, and what’s important, being always accessible and affordable. This dream becomes reality with AI and one of the companies that is working on such products is Pearson, the world’s learning company.

Kacper ?odzikowski who works as a Vice President of AI Capabilities at Pearson will speak how they build trustworthy AI systems for millions of users worldwide. He will shed light on practical issues such as the validity, reliability, and fairness of assessment based on pre-generative and generative AI. Last but not least, he will delve into the operational and repetitional risks associated with using pre-trained models that may contain built-in bias, or implementing blackbox models that may lack the transparency and interpretability required by customers or regulations such as the upcoming EU AI Act.

In the meantime, you can check Pearson: Generative AI Strategy Update.

Amazon makes its voice assistant, Alexa, better for customers every day

This presentation given by Xingchen Ling (Senior Data Scientist) and Maciej Chmielarz (Software Development Manager) describes how Amazon makes its voice assistant, Alexa, better for customers. When they release new features or products, they want to know if these changes actually make customers happier.

To figure this out, they created a special model called a "customer matching model." This model helps them compare how Alexa is used by different groups of customers. They don't want to just do random tests because that can be difficult and not always a good idea.

Instead, they use this model to make groups of customers that are similar to each other. Then, they can compare how Alexa is used by these groups to see if the changes they made had a positive impact.

In the presentation, they talk about how this model works and how they made it easier to use. They also explain how they improved their data platform and data pipelines to handle all the data and make better predictions about how customers will use Alexa in the future.

AI supports therapists and helps patients

This presentation dives into the exciting intersection of psychology and technology. It's all about improving the way therapy, particularly a technique known as Motivational Interviewing (MI), is conducted.

Amit Spinrad who works as a Data Scientist at Eleos Health will introduce a tool called CareOps. Think of it as a helpful assistant for therapists. Then, he will explain what Motivational Interviewing (MI) is and why it's significant in the world of therapy. It's a method that helps people find their motivation for positive change.

The really interesting part is how they're using Natural Language Processing (NLP). Essentially, they're teaching computers to understand and generate text related to therapy.?

The big goal here is to make therapy more effective in real-life situations. By using technology and data, they improve therapy sessions and outcomes for people seeking help and support. It's all about using the best of both worlds, psychology and technology, to make a positive impact on people's lives.

AI-powered products that are loved by users

Many digital products claim to use AI (Artificial Intelligence), but not all of them are equally successful. This talk explores different approaches to creating AI-powered products, with a focus on the user's perspective.?

Dainius K. who works as a Artificial Intelligence Product Lead at Forecast.app, will share key learning points to explain why it's not enough for them to be technically advanced to build successful AI-driven products; they also need to understand and integrate with users' needs to be truly successful and loved.

Building your own Gen AI and LLM models in a day

A day before the conference (October 4th), there will be a technical workshop about building Generative AI and LLMs. It aims to provide participants in-depth knowledge of the latest advancements in NLP, computer vision, and ML techniques for Gen AI.

The workshop will explore real-life applications of large language models using cutting-edge models such as GPT, PalM, and open-source LLMs. Participants will also learn how to use industry-standard LLMs with APIs, fine-tune models on their data, and deploy private LLM-based assistants.

The workshop will be delivered by Michal Brys and Marek Wiewiórka (both from GetInData | Part of Xebia ). You can read more here https://summit.datamass.io/workshops
