Aidoc Forms Strategic Partnership With Isala Hospital In The Netherlands

“We are delighted to have a strategic partner like Isala, who truly sees the value of implementing AI at scale in radiology and the downstream impact it can have. AI is a tool that augments the radiologist and so when paired, the two complement each other and raise diagnostic efficiency. Hospitals like Isala with their visionary leadership are forging a new path, showing how AI will play a pivotal role in the future of hospital care through rigorous clinical research demonstrating AI’s valuable role.”?
Alexander Boehmcker, VP Europe, Aidoc

Today Aidoc announced a strategic partnership with Isala Hospital in the Netherlands. Isala Hospital will implement Aidoc's AI Care platform to sustain high diagnostic radiology efficiency and provide top tier patient care. As part of the partnership, Isala will integrate 3 of the 10 AI algorithms in Aidoc’s suite of CE-marked and FDA-cleared AI solutions. The hospital will integrate Aidoc’s AI algorithms for triage and notification of intracranial hemorrhage, pulmonary embolism, and c-spine fractures.

Aidoc's AI Care platform is a singular platform designed to help doctors manage the entire patient lifecycle—from diagnostic aid, to consultation, to suggested treatment paths, to patient follow-up tools.?In clinical studies, this platform has proven to reduce turnaround time, shorten patient length of stay and improve patient outcomes. The Platform helps doctors spend more time with their patients and provide higher quality treatment.

Aidoc has 15 FDA-cleared clinical solutions that are used to analyze medical images for over 1 million patients every month and improve patient care in more than 1,000 medical facilities worldwide.

Isala Hospital is one of the largest non-academic hospitals in The Netherlands and is a member of mProve which is an organization for the 7 top clinical hospitals in the country. Isala provides basic care and highly-specialized care including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, dialysis, autologue stem cell transplantation, and radiotherapy. Research and innovation are considered very important at Isala and they have a specialized academy that coordinates teaching activities.

Isala evaluated Aidoc’s algorithm for c-spine fractures on a validated database of 2,331 CT scans and showed the potential value of the AI as a concurrent reader by increasing the total number of fractures identified by a radiologist by 13% (ECR 2022 oral presentation).

“Imaging volumes continue to rise. Therefore, we need a clear plan on how AI technology can support radiologists to manage the increasing workload. AI has proven to offer high value by reducing turnaround time, increasing the radiologists confidence and reducing variability of quality.”
Dr. Martijn Boomsma, Radiologist at Isala Hospital, and champion of AI

In clinical settings, Aidoc’s AI has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity and the ability to complement radiologist’s strengths. Research conducted with Aidoc’s solutions shows that AI?solutions?utilized in?clinical settings have had a positive impact on numerous indicators, such as?turnaround time,?efficiency?and?emergency department throughput. The Aidoc AI Care platform includes 16 CE-marked radiology AI solutions–10 in-house developed and 6 third-party algorithms–and multidisciplinary team coordination solutions, all driven by the underlying AI OS.

Aidoc developed "Always-on AI" a term coined by Elad Walach, CEO of Aidoc, to describe AI that is constantly running and automatically analyzing medical images and alerting doctors of abnormal images. The company's?Care Coordination application?operates as an intelligent layer on top of hospital IT systems, and provides a centralized solution to address care points across the health system. This first of its kind platform empowers radiologists to triage time-critical cases and gain insights derived from imaging data and electronic medical records.

“In Aidoc we’ve found the perfect partner, a vendor who is willing to test and demonstrate the performance and is constantly working on improving their algorithms. AI offers us a high degree of comfort amid periods of high imaging volumes and especially during night shifts. Beyond radiology, we also observed its ability to make a positive impact on the post-diagnosis patient pathway.”
Dr. Rogier van Dijk, Radiologist at Isala Hospital, champion of AI

On April Aidoc?received 510(k) clearance for it's AI algorithm for triage and notification of brain aneurysm. In 2018 Aidoc was granted FDA clearance for an algorithm to flag acute intracranial hemorrhage in CT?scans, and in 2019 the company received FDA clearance for its?pulmonary embolism?system. Aidoc has also obtained?FDA clearance for algorithms to detect pneumothorax,?stroke, cervical fracture,?intra-abdominal free gas, and?incidental pulmonary embolism.

Aidoc's software is used in hospitals, level 1 trauma centers, and outpatient imaging centers including Montefiore Nyack Hospital,?Yale New Haven Hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,?University of Rochester Medical Center, Sheba Medical Center, and Antwerp University?Hospital. In June Aidoc raised $110 million in Series D funding. In total the company has raised over $250 million from investors.
