Will AI(Artificial Intelligence) and/or machine learning be the end of humanity or will they be the saviour of it?
It may seem a long, tiring and boring discussion to put this topic onto the agenda again. But I just can't help myself talking about it, while everyday smth new, an idea, a new methodology has been continously being put in front of ourselves.
Let me please enter the world of Elon Musk first. He is one of the pioneers of the AI methodology implementers as he was the first to put Tesla moving around worlds. And lately again, he has begun to talk about simulation in which he thinks the humankind might be living in. Another matrix-like assumption from a man like him can't just be annoying to anyone of us.
In fact, he might be right about what he suggests. Perhaps we do live in a simulated world. But we have to make ourselves sure about one thing clearly. All we're doing is to define the objects around us with mathematical tools (methods/algorithms etc.) founded by humankind. Elon Musk might have put all of humanity into the same basket with AI, but I believe the boundaries within AI universe are being drawn by the mathematics as we know it.
According to his assumptions, we all live in a world bounded and created by mathematical algorithms. This is so common for anyone who dedicates her/his life to crunching data sets, numbers today. But again I have to emphasize that if Elon Musk thinks that we live in a simulation, then all of the methods/algorithms defined had better be defined under different spaces, sets etc. The AI algorithms/simulation algorithms that are running right now return specific values ,that may be assumed on metric spaces. I know what I am talking about is pure maths, but sorry that is it.
In case we continue our lives as stated by Elon Musk, then it seems that we have to change the space we are being handled. Perhaps, we may have to act on topological spaces in which we may be flexible as far as we want to be and we may change into any such form as a simulation, algorithm, code and a tiger. But these transformations only depend on one-thing, they should be continous, open etc. To change ourselves into any other structure, we have to be a continous and a open structure.
It may seem that I have deviated from the topic of this article, but in order to get things into some kind of order such as benefits of AI/big data analytics, these should be emphasized.
So will AI/big data analytics really save the humanity? It may or it may not. If Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates are right, then we will be really in big trouble, but if Elon Musk is right then we may assume that we are lucky.
Sooner or later, we will face our destiny, but it is surely in the hands of mathematics.
