AI on your browser sidebar: its potential to assist teaching

As a teacher, you know how challenging and time-consuming lesson planning can be. You need to come up with engaging and effective activities that meet the needs and goals of your students while aligning with the curriculum and standards. You also need to find reliable and relevant sources of information that support your teaching objectives.

But what if I told you there was a tool that could help you plan lessons quickly and easily? A tool that can answer your questions, generate content and provide insights based on your context. A tool that can chat with you like a human and understand your tone and intent. A tool that is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and available for free on the Microsoft Edge browser.

That tool is Bing Chat, a new feature that lets you interact with an AI chatbot that can help you with a variety of tasks, including searching, composing, and learning. Bing Chat is not your usual search engine. It is a conversational agent that can understand natural language queries and provide complete answers. It can also create different types of content for you, such as emails, articles, ideas, or paragraphs. And it can provide insights related to the content you view in Microsoft Edge.

How can Bing Chat help with lesson planning? Here are a few examples:

  • You can ask Bing Chat to draw a picture of a word or concept and use it as a vocabulary exercise or writing prompt for your students.
  • You can ask Bing Chat to summarise an article or web page and use it as a reading comprehension activity or discussion starter for your students.
  • You can ask Bing Chat to generate key takeaways or questions from an article or web page and use it as a review or assessment for your students.
  • You can ask Bing Chat to translate a word, phrase, or sentence and use it as a language-learning activity for your students.
  • You can ask Bing Chat to provide insights related to the content you are viewing in Microsoft Edge and use them as additional information or resources for your students.

To learn more about this feature and see it in action, I recommend you watch my recorded demonstration session with TeachingEnglish British Council on YouTube: https://youtu.be/vhwmfjRGXeY.
