AI writing your next radio commercial?

AI writing your next radio commercial?

I read an article this week about a company that creates radio commercials from start to finish using AI technology. I admit it. I've been playing with AI. I've done my own scripts for clients, sent them off and then fed the info into AI and seen what it could come up with.

Here are my initial observations:

  1. AI find it hard to write to time. If I ask for a 30 second ad, it gives me a 50. But I guess it would learn!
  2. It thinks FIRMLY inside the box. I don't see the creativity and flair of good writing.
  3. The ads are packed with the bad cliches from databases of bad ads! The things that good writers would stay clear of because they are a bit naff... are there. "Attention bathroom buyers!"
  4. But it's learning!

So as a bit of fun I asked AI why I should NOT use AI to write my radio commercials... and this is what it said:-

Radio advertising is an essential marketing tool for many businesses, and creating compelling scripts is a crucial element of successful radio campaigns. As technology advances, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate radio advertising scripts has become increasingly prevalent. However, while AI has its benefits, there are several reasons why businesses should not rely solely on AI to create radio advertising scripts.

  1. Lack of Human Touch

One of the main reasons why businesses should avoid using AI for radio advertising scripts is the lack of human touch. Radio advertising scripts require a personal touch, and AI may not be able to capture the nuances and emotions that a human writer can. A well-written radio advertising script should evoke emotions, connect with the listener, and tell a story. These are qualities that AI may not be able to deliver in the same way a human writer can.

2. Limitations of AI Technology

AI technology has come a long way in recent years, but it still has its limitations. While AI may be able to generate scripts based on certain criteria, it may not be able to create a script that is tailored to a specific business or brand. AI relies on data and algorithms, but a human writer can take into account the unique qualities of a business, its brand voice, and its target audience to create a script that resonates with listeners.

3. Risks of Plagiarism

Using AI to generate radio advertising scripts can also present a risk of plagiarism. AI relies on data and algorithms, which means that it may produce similar or identical scripts to those created by other businesses or individuals. This can lead to copyright infringement issues and damage to a business's reputation.

4. Lack of Flexibility

Radio advertising campaigns often require changes to be made to scripts on short notice. This can be difficult with AI-generated scripts, as they may not be as flexible as a human writer. Changes to an AI-generated script may require additional programming, which can be time-consuming and costly. On the other hand, a human writer can make changes to a script quickly and efficiently, ensuring that the final product is of the highest quality.

5. The Importance of Creativity

Creativity is a vital element of successful radio advertising campaigns. While AI can generate scripts based on data and algorithms, it may not be able to think outside the box or come up with innovative ideas. Creativity is often what sets successful radio advertising campaigns apart from unsuccessful ones, and a human writer is better equipped to deliver that creativity than AI.

6. Building Relationships with Clients

Building strong relationships with clients is essential in the advertising industry. A human writer can work closely with clients to understand their business, brand, and target audience. This allows the writer to create scripts that not only resonate with listeners but also reflect the client's unique qualities. Building relationships with clients can also lead to repeat business and positive referrals, something that may not be possible with AI-generated scripts.

In conclusion, while AI has its benefits, businesses should avoid using it to create radio advertising scripts. Radio advertising scripts require a personal touch, creativity, and the ability to build strong relationships with clients. AI may be able to generate scripts quickly and efficiently, but it may not be able to deliver the quality, flexibility, and personalization that a human writer can. In the highly competitive world of advertising, the personal touch and creativity that a human writer can provide are essential for standing out and creating successful radio advertising campaigns.

So there you have it!
