AI Writing: It’s A Tool...Not A Way Out

I don’t know who needs to hear this but...
PLEASE, don’t cut corners by using AI writing to draft your content, and hire a copywriter to “edit” rather than write said content from the start.?
If you do decide to go about this route, here’s the deal:
??AI writing will leave you with material that is not specifically written for your brand or audience (boring, wordy, fluffy, etc.)
??Any copywriter looking at AI material will need to do a partial or complete rewrite anyway (because it goes beyond editing)
But I need to save money!
Yep, we get it! And there are other ways to use AI writing to do this.
But it’s never okay to assume that you don’t need to pay for creative services to get what you want (another topic for another day).?
And that’s what copywriting is (or should be)...creative. AI writing doesn’t fill the need for the creative part, meaning your voice, tone, and style will not be present. And let’s be clear. Editing is preparing written material to be published by making minor adjustments or changes. Anything more than that isn’t editing. It’s just writing.
You’re saying this because you don’t want your job replaced with AI. So, I just don’t believe you.
Fair enough! Use your favorite AI writing tool to draft a blog of your choice → Read it (to yourself, dog, co-worker, whatever) out loud before asking yourself → Does this sound close enough to hit publish? Let me know what happens!

Now...when I was given this exact task to accomplish for a client following ChatGPT’s launch, I thought...
??There is NO way I’m doing this as an edit because it clearly goes beyond that.
??I am second-guessing this professional relationship because they either don’t value what we do or don’t fully understand the value of creative services (I can work with the latter).
The results of this project?
When all was said and done, I spent MORE time “editing” the AI content I was given rather than simply writing the blog myself from scratch. It was also necessary to (awkwardly) address what happened and why we would need to charge more for AI-written content (we don’t and cannot work for free).
All of this isn’t to say that AI writing can’t be an effective tool.?
You can use AI to...
You can then pass these ideas on to your marketing team and/or copywriter to use as a starting point while they continue to implement your specific personality, stories, SEO research, and keywords.
The main idea here? AI writing is a tool...not a way out of making original content.

1 年Rightly said Allyson that AI is a tool and not a copywriter replacement. Business owners who want to cut corners by thinking short term, will realize their mistake soon.
