AI - the wounder of the world! Who has answers to every question? – Well, not exactly.

AI - the wounder of the world! Who has answers to every question? – Well, not exactly.

For six months, we have been working with different AI applications, trying to use AI to analyse customer inputs. This is part of our method to define what behaviour must change to improve the business culture and, with that, improve the working environment and reduce staff turnover.

AI is a fantastic tool in many ways, and it is here to stay and to help us become even more efficient. My primary experience is that most of the AI applications are on a very low level in the field of management and interpersonal communication. I could say quite a dangerous level that I think will be clear for everyone in the small experiment below. So, I have a question that a large amount of employees have had some time during employment. It regards having a meaningful one-to-one meeting with their manager without any distractions. ??

Question to AI application:

I have a boss who is difficult to meet in a meeting where I want to talk about something important for me to feel good in the workplace. The boss is stressed and has been on sick leave due to burnout and answers evasively when I try to get a meeting. What should I do?

And this is the answer from Bing Chat:

I understand that it can be difficult to get a meeting with your boss, especially when they are stressed and have been on sick leave due to burnout. According to an article from?Harvard Business Review, it may be a good idea to have a direct conversation with your boss. This can help you deepen and strengthen your relationship with your boss. Before drawing any conclusions about why your boss is behaving a certain way, ask yourself if they have behaved the same way before or if it is something new. It may also be worth investigating if others on the team feel the same way.

To handle stressful bosses,?Harvard Business Review?recommends learning to predict their behavioral patterns and moods, which can help you prepare for dealing with the situation. Try not to make things worse by being a source of stress yourself. If you annoy or upset your manager, or the work you produce is unacceptable, you can expect the worst aspects of their personality to emerge. Instead, make yourself indispensable to your boss and ensure that they look better with you on board.?No matter how stressful your boss may be and how good you become at handling their dark side, the only way to ensure that you continue to be on their good side is by being a valuable resource to them.

I have tried to ask for the definition of “direct conversation”, but the AI answers again with the article from Harvard Business Review.?

If employees, who have a problem having a meeting with their manager, read this. How will they interpret it, and what will their action be if they are in a stage of not feeling well?

-?????? “Try not to make things worse by being a source of stress yourself.”

This could easily cause the employee to blame him/her selves, and that is not going to help. ???

-?????? “If you annoy or upset your manager, or the work you produce is unacceptable, you can expect the worst aspects of their personality to emerge.”

REALLY?! I′m sorry, but this is not what you need to read as an employee.

I think that these two examples from the text are enough for everyone to understand that these are not good suggestions. Many have probably reflected on the question of what would happen if it is the manager who seeks support when she/he has a challenge with an employee who "chases you for an individual meeting." I wonder what will happen in that scenario. It's a really scary thought. Where does it get its facts from? Is it that much less good online or is it just wrong calibrated in this particular subject?

I want to think that most of the employees and managers will look through these AI recommendations. But what if that AI comes up with a suggestion that looks more believable but still completely wrong. What then?

My feeling is that we humans adopt new ideas and technology a little too easily. I think we are a little too gullible. We want so badly to believe that we have now found the truth and want to trust it.?

What I wrote at the beginning of this post is my sincere opinion. AI is an amazing tool. However, I think it is important to start a dialogue internally among the personnel in all businesses and create understanding and insight into how we can use AI based on the business, customers, employees and managers. And I urge you to do this today before someone takes less good suggestions as truth, which can make them feel really bad.

If you have thoughts regarding this, please comment!
