Is it time to retire the name Market Research?
With technology completely changing the way we gather and analyse data; the more traditional methods of Market research aren’t as heavily relied on. Naturally, this has resulted in a shift in the use of the term Insights, as opposed to general market research.
This is evident with companies like ESOMAR, now referring to themselves as ‘The Global Data and Insights Community’.? Ray Poynter , elected president of ESOMAR, says:
"The term insights has been replacing market research (and marketing research) for several years. A quick scan of job titles and departments shows a whole host of insights this and insights that, but relatively few market research departments or market researchers.
Part of this shift is simply fashion, the pursuit of something new and catchy. However, beneath the froth of fashion there is a deeper point, namely the shift from what people do to what they produce. This is reminiscent of Theodore Levitt's observation that people do not want drills, they want holes. Most clients do not want to 'do market research', they want the insight to make better decisions. Clients started the movement towards referring to their service to their organisation as insight, and to themselves as insight professionals. This in turn led to associations (like the Insights Association) and to events and to researcher providers using the insight word."
Is it time to retire the term Market Research in favour for a more impactful term like Insights??
Temp recruitment is on the rise, and we're seeing this reflect with many of our clients in the run up to the festive season.
Here's 5 ways you can benefit from temp recruitment, and how it could be key to supporting the business, AND employees in busy periods.
1. To support projects and stop you falling behind, given the percentage of employees taking time off for the holidays, and the need to meet deadlines.?
2. It's more cost effective - you may not have sign off on budgets for hires in the new year. Hiring on a temporary basis means you can keep to deliverables, while making more long-term plans.?
3. They're available now. If you are hiring and are looking for perm employees, they're more likely to start in the new year. Temp staff can be on hand within a week, if not immediately to support business needs.?
4. Although the market is on the up, there is still some uncertainty around hiring with businesses being more cautious across perm roles. This makes temp/contract recruitment a secure, short-term option.?

5. It's easier to get skilled workers, quickly. If you have roles or projects where theres a need for a niche skill, its much easier, and quicker to get these on a temporary basis, while continuing the search for the longer-term.??
