New Research Reveals Growing Ecosystem of Custom Wine GPTs
Have you opened ChatGPT, clicked on Explore GPTs, and typed the word "wine?" If you do, you'll discover a whole new world of AI tools relevant to the wine industry.
Inspired by the authors of WineBusiness Monthly's groundbreaking research on AI adoption in the wine industry, we prompted ChatGPT to conduct original research into the growing ecosystem of custom wine GPTs.?
Of the 100 wine GPTs we examined, AI Sommeliers were the most prevalent genre, comprising 50% of the custom GPTs we found. ?Other custom wine GPTs included wine education, wine label scanners, food pairing, wine marketing, winemaking, wine business management, compliance, and a wine-buying guide.
Most custom wine GPTs reported few conversations, suggesting many of these GPTs are experimental or still in the development/testing phase. ?Some appear to have been created for individual businesses.
However, the most popular AI Sommellier GPT reported 25K+ conversations, the most popular AI Wine Marketing GPT reported 1K+ conversations, and the most popular AI Food Pairing GPT reported 500+ conversations to date.

Wharton Dean Interviews LinkedIn's Co-Founder about AI "Superagency"
Since you're on LinkedIn now, you might be interested in Reid Hoffman's take on AI's potential benefits and problems in 2025. ?Erika James, the Dean of the Wharton School, recently interviewed Mr. Hoffman (LinkedIn's Co-Founder) about the role of AI in industry. ?
You can watch the entire interview here: https://youtu.be/g8TD1jB-eVs
Hoffman's new book, Superagency: What Could Possibly Go Right With Our AI Future, paints a guardedly optimistic view of how AI can enhance human agency while boosting personal and business productivity.
Hoffman thinks the lack of trust in AI comes from a worry over the loss of agency, but that doesn't have to happen. ?He encouraged people to play around with the technology — especially the easy-to-use audio prompts — to discover how it can give them "superagency" at work, at home, and in their communities.

Using the "Feynman Technique" to Train Your AI Wine Marketing Agent
Now that I've experienced good and bad outcomes after prompting ChatGPT to perform important wine marketing tasks, I can confirm that AI Agents must be trained like all new team members if you expect them to do a good job.
Even though they're "book smart" and well-spoken, AI Agents are still machines following the golden rule of computing: GIGO (garbage in, garbage out).? That means wine marketers must wear one more hat: as a teacher/coach adept at writing detailed work instructions.
For a fun look at the problems raised by writing poor instructions, see this lecture delivered to Harvard computer science students: https://youtu.be/okkIyWhN0iQ?si=929NSoP4oN-uUeWq.
As a pragmatic approach to training your new AI Agents, I suggest using the Feynman Technique, a four-step routine for teaching almost anything to anyone.?

AI Wine Art & Inspirations
When searching for custom GPTs focused on wine marketing, I took "Wine Label Creator" for a test drive by asking for advice on creating a new wine brand targeting LDA gen-z consumers.
Below, I've attached the prompts I used and the output generated by this custom GPT.?
What do you think of this GPT's work?

WineSpeak.ai CEO - Customer Obsessed Creator of the First-of-its-Kind Virtual Concierge & Wine Curator/Educator for the DTC Wine Industry
3 天前I want to chime in on the AI Custom GPTs you mention in this edition. While I built one in 2023 it became clear that it was no different than building a website in the 90s...the conventional wisdom being that "If you build it, they will come" Nothing could have been further from the truth. I built my first $1 Million dollar eCommerce website in 1997, and the key was...If you build it and market it, they MAY come...but it better be useful and a brilliant user experience or they won't stay. I built my Custom GPT as a research project, not as a commercial venture...fast forward to Feb 3rd 2024...the birth of WineSpeak.ai The idea was conceived and tested in the tasting rooms of the Napa Valley and has proven to be a highly usable and useful user experience with a very specific purpose...ENGAGEMENT on winery and TR websites. It is NOT a chatbot, but rather a Virtual Team Member working 24/7 on behalf of wine brands, custom built for each individual brand with economics that make sense to the DTC wine biz. We are about to launch our next feature set that elevates the experience way beyond what those impossible to find and less than optimal Custom GPTs deliver. We have users...lots of them because it's easy to find, easier to use.
