AI: 'We're at a pivotal time in the history of humanity'!

So says Alvin W. Graylin in a recent must-watch interview with Peter Diamandis, a sentiment that we 100% concur with as an extension to our view expressed in our many 1idea issues as: 'We live in the greatest time ever to be alive'.

Welcome to Issue 73 of 1idea

In - What AI, AGI, and the Metaverse Mean for the Future of Humanity w/ Alvin W. Graylin - both Diamandis and Graylin give compelling viewpoints as to why we need to prepare for the coming rapid pace of change - unlike anything humanity has experienced before.

Heading off the concern of AI-doomsayers for impending job losses, Graylin comments: '..when you're on this digital parallel universe (the Metaverse) as long as you are smart, as long as you're hardworking, as long as you're creative, you will be able to provide value to somebody else somewhere else in the world and that allows essentially a redistribution of wealth in a natural way.'

Graylin explains why the 'extraordinarily fast' approaching era of 'digital super intelligence and humanoid robots.. enables this amazing world of abundance where you can have anything you want'.

In an interesting discussion about the pros and cons of a near-future world underpinned by ASI - Artificial Super Intelligence - they relate the ability of ASI to provide alternative options or scenarios for any question or challenge posed.. to that of today's equivalent of consulting wise elders who have lengthy unique experiences of the challenges of life and business.

And then.. they touch on a topic that has been in our WISDOMS? team's key wheelhouse for a collective +150 years of unique life & business experience: SOFT SKILLS.

They focus on the importance of people 'finding happiness through energy abundance'. Much in line with what we have written in 1idea Issue 37 - You Deserve YOUR 'Happy Place' - and 1idea Issue 45 - Life's A Beach. Enjoy It!

They highlight the paradox of the instant-information social-media era looking to AI to short-circuit information - 'everything fast in one minute or five seconds' - versus their recommendation to dig deeper into books and 'these two or three hour podcasts to know what's going on and to really understand something and the real connections and reasoning behind it.. to ask the right questions'.

Continues Graylin: '..knowing what to ask is a lot more important than getting the answers and I actually find myself, right now with AI systems, I'm just asking.. trying to find out, to understand a topic and something that I may not have heard a word of or a topic somewhere that I want to know deeper. I would just pretend that I'm a kid and just keep asking questions. In half an hour I can become fairly knowledgeable on the topic that I had very little understanding for. We need that kind of kind of curiosity.'

We absolutely concur, as we wrote in 1idea Issue 70: AI: Everybody Must Ask Questions!

They close with a discussion on - The Underestimated Importance of Soft Skills. Graylin comments: 'Now that the HARD SKILLS and STEM SKILLS are essentially a given, we need to make sure that our kids spend more time learning philosophy and psychology, communication and history, and how to lead because those are the things that will actually separate how they will be integrated into this future world.. the most important thing is how we will interact with each other and that's all about SOFT SKILLS'.

They touch on so much more in this must-watch video - What AI, AGI, and the Metaverse Mean for the Future of Humanity w/ Alvin W. Graylin - highly recommended!

I was so struck by the synchronicity of our thinking that I sought out Alvin Wang Graylin on Linkedin and found his recent commencement speech to graduate engineers at the University of Washington - https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/trevornel_uw-ece-2024-commencement-speech-alvin-w-activity-7209212768627961856-_m3T/ - to which I commented: 'Suffice it to say that we at WISDOMS? are (and have been for many, many years since inception) in 100% concurrence with the sentiments expressed by Alvin.'
