AI Weekly: Tesla's Robo-Taxis, Meta’s New Video Generator, and AI That Can Taste!

In the fast-evolving world of artificial intelligence, this week brought a mix of futuristic breakthroughs and exciting developments. From Tesla’s robo-taxis to AI that can "taste" food, let's dive into the highlights.

Tesla’s Futuristic Robo-Taxis

Elon Musk continues to push boundaries with Tesla’s innovations, and his recent We Robot event gave us a glimpse of what’s coming next. Tesla’s latest unveiling was a fully autonomous robo-taxi, which has neither a steering wheel nor pedals—just a sleek, driverless car that takes passengers to their destinations.

The most remarkable feature of this robo-taxi is its potential to reshape urban landscapes. Musk envisions a world with fewer parking lots, as these autonomous vehicles can drop you off, pick up another passenger, and keep moving. Imagine reclaiming those vast parking spaces for parks, green spaces, or other public uses!

While the robo-taxi models are expected to roll out by 2026, Tesla’s current fleet of Model X, Y, and 3, along with the Cybertruck, will already start serving as robo-taxis next year. Musk also hinted at a business model where owners of these $30,000 robo-taxis could earn by turning them into ride-sharing vehicles when not in use.

Meta's Groundbreaking Video Generator

Meta is stepping up its game in the AI video space with Meta Movie Gen, a revolutionary video generator that uses simple text inputs to create customized videos. What sets this model apart is its ability to add sound effects and music, making it more immersive than previous AI-generated video platforms like Sora.

One fascinating feature is the ability to import real-life faces into these AI-generated videos, offering a new level of personalization. While it's not yet publicly available, the demos are impressive and point to exciting possibilities for content creators.

Open-Source AI Video with Pyramid Flow

On the open-source front, Pyramid Flow made headlines as one of the first high-caliber AI video generators available to the public. Developers can now fine-tune the model locally or on the cloud, pushing the capabilities of video generation even further. The fact that it’s open-source means we’re likely to see rapid innovation as more developers get their hands on the code.

Zoom's AI Avatars and the Future of Meetings

????I couldn't embed the right video...so you can find the full video of Zoomtopia here ????https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuHOo6bLEic

Imagine sending your AI avatar to meetings while you focus on other tasks. Zoom is getting closer to this reality with a new feature that lets you create a custom AI avatar. Initially, these avatars will be used to send short messages, but Zoom is hinting at a future where AI avatars might fully attend meetings on your behalf.

The prospect of meetings filled with AI avatars raises many questions—if everyone's avatar is present, will anything really get done? It’s certainly a future worth watching.

AI That Can "Taste"

In a surprising leap forward, AI is now capable of "tasting" food! Researchers at Penn State have developed an electronic tongue that can detect spoilage, food safety concerns, and even variations in liquid products like milk. This AI-powered sensor could have profound implications for food safety, quality control, and medical diagnostics.

From Tesla’s robo-taxis to AI-generated videos and digital "tasting" capabilities, the innovations in AI continue to accelerate. As these technologies develop, they promise to transform industries and everyday life. Stay tuned to AI Weekly for more updates on how AI is reshaping the future!

Tesla’s ChatGPT moment is coming. Nearly 1 million Tesla owners in North America already pay for its “full self-driving” (FSD) mode. These folks are now driving roughly 15 million miles on FSD per day. Take your hands off the wheel, and the car drives itself. This feature isn’t perfect, but it’s improving rapidly. Until recently, Tesla’s autopilot system ran on “human-coded rules.” Programmers told the car’s brain that when it sees a green light, it must drive. Unless there’s a pedestrian… or a cyclist… or a car blocking the road. You get the drift. It’s impossible to programmatically prepare for every real-life situation. Tesla’s autopilot had tens of thousands of these rules, which degraded performance. The V12 update eliminated all human code. It now runs 100% on an AI system, like ChatGPT. V12 basically squeezed a whole decade’s worth of progress into a few months. The tech is getting so good so fast, self-driving skeptics will be converted in the next year. You don’t have to make wild predictions about how many Cybercabs Tesla will sell in the future to believe this is a multitrillion-dollar stock in the making. Tesla is mastering self-driving tech. That’s the biggest reason its stock is going much higher.

Pyramid Flow being open-source could help HR tech innovators bring new AI-driven learning and development tools to life. Excited for the future of employee training.

Zoom’s AI avatars could bring about a whole new level of work-life balance. Imagine freeing up time without missing a beat in meetings.

The open-source nature of Pyramid Flow makes me think of opportunities for employee-driven innovation—allowing internal teams to build custom solutions for video.
