Welcome to this week’s edition of your favourite AI Weekly Summary!

?

We’ve got quite a lot of ground to cover this week, but we couldn’t start with any other piece of news than with the Senate AI Insight Forum.

?

AI Regulation: A Closed-Door Forum

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recently hosted a closed-door AI Insight Forum featuring tech industry leaders such as Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Sam Altman of OpenAI, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Jensen Huang of Nvidia, Sundar Pichai of Google, and Elon Musk.

?

The forum focused on the urgent need for AI regulation. Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of a balanced approach between regulation and innovation, even as Meta open-sourced its Llama 2 AI model. Elon Musk advocated for the creation of a federal AI oversight agency, while Sam Altman expressed confidence in the speed of upcoming AI regulations. Schumer cautioned against hasty rulemaking without a deep understanding of AI technology.

?

However, the private nature of the forum drew criticism, notably from Senator Elizabeth Warren, who saw it as an avenue for tech giants to unduly influence policies. Experts also called for greater transparency in the regulatory process to avoid potential capture by vested interests.

Google's Forthcoming Gemini: Elevating Conversational AI

Interestingly enough, Google is on the brink of releasing Gemini, a revolutionary AI software aimed at humanizing our digital conversations. Imagine a virtual assistant that not only understands your commands but also captures the nuances of your tone, context, and emotion.

?

This is not just a technological advancement; it's an emotional leap forward. Gemini aims to redefine the quality of our interactions with AI, offering an experience that closely mimics human conversation. This could be a game-changer for industries like customer service and mental health, where the quality of interaction can make or break the experience.

?

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, Gemini could set a new standard for AI-human interaction, potentially influencing how other tech companies approach conversational AI. Could it redefine the way businesses engage with customers? Watch this space!

Adobe's IBC 2023 Announcement: AI-Driven 3D Features

Adobe has recently revealed new AI-driven 3D features at IBC 2023, promising to revolutionize the way we interact with digital media. These features aim to simplify complex 3D modelling tasks, making them accessible even to those with limited technical expertise.

?

This democratization of 3D technology could have broad implications, from streamlining content creation in the entertainment industry to accelerating product design in manufacturing for example. These are some serious steps forward towards a more immersive digital experience, which could make 3D tech something we use in our everyday lives, much like ChatGPT is currently doing.

Amazon's AI-Generated Book Content and Seller Tools

This one will be of great interest to all authors. Amazon is making waves with its new disclosure policy for AI-generated book content and its generative AI tool for sellers. The policy aims to bring transparency to the origin of book content, ensuring that readers are aware when they are engaging with AI-generated material. This is a significant step towards ethical AI usage in publishing.

But this doesn’t mean Amazon is against AI, oh no! Far from that. On the flip side, Amazon released a new tool to help their sellers, with the help of AI, of course. This generative AI tool for sellers is designed to help create and optimize product listing descriptions, making it easier for sellers to reach their target audience.

Both initiatives reflect Amazon's commitment to leveraging AI responsibly and effectively. The implications are vast, from setting industry standards in AI ethics to potentially revolutionizing e-commerce strategies. Do you agree with Amazon’s view of disclosing AI publications?

Salesforce's Einstein Copilot: Conversational AI Across Platforms

Earlier on this week I shared the article in this post, showing once more how AI is quickly getting integrated into every single application in business. Salesforce announced they’re embedding conversational AI across its platform with the introduction of Einstein Copilot.

?

This feature aims to streamline customer interactions by providing real-time insights and suggestions. Imagine a sales rep instantly knowing the most effective upsell strategies or a customer service agent resolving issues more efficiently. The research accompanying this release also highlights the increasing adoption of AI in various industries, signaling a broader shift towards AI-driven business processes.

?The implications are enormous, from enhanced customer experiences to more data-driven decision-making in businesses. It will be interesting to see how businesses make use of these new features, so if you’re a lucky one, please let me know!

Salesforce Unveils Eye-Opening AI Usage Research: Meet the 'Super-Users'

And let’s finish with a research piece from Salesforce too, this week quite a revealing one about AI usage from an article I also shared in this post this week.

They recently published an in-depth research study that delves into the fascinating world of generative AI usage. The study, titled "Generative AI Snapshot Research: The AI Divide," surveyed over 4,000 individuals across the United States, UK, Australia, and India.

?

The findings are nothing short of intriguing. Nearly half of the general population has interacted with generative AI, and a significant portion of the population uses it on a daily basis (that’s me!). The report introduces us to a new class of 'super-users,' predominantly Millennials and Gen Z, who are not just frequent users but also believe they have mastered the technology. These super-users are gainfully employed and increasingly rely on AI to make informed decisions in various aspects of their lives.

?

The implications of this research are seriously interesting. First and foremost, it highlights the rapid adoption and trust in AI technologies, particularly among younger generations. This is a clear signal for businesses and organizations to prioritize making their AI solutions both secure and user-friendly to capitalize on this section of the population.

?

Second, the study illuminates an 'AI Divide,' a gap between generations, where older age groups like Gen X and Baby Boomers are less engaged with generative AI. This divide is primarily due to security concerns and a general lack of awareness, which could result in missed opportunities for applying AI in diverse life scenarios.

?

Lastly, this research asks for companies and policymakers to invest in public education about the safety and utility of AI, which I couldn’t agree more. A staggering 64% of non-users indicated they would be more willing to engage with AI if their concerns about security and utility were adequately addressed.

?

So, the question begs, are you a part of this 'AI super-user' club? If not, what's holding you back?

And that’s all for this week folks!

?

As per usual, keen to hear your thoughts, not only about the articles shared but also about how I can improve the newsletter.

?

Take care and have a great week ahead!
