Welcome to a new edition of the AI Weekly Summary!
?
First of all, it’s Father’s Day here in New Zealand and I want to wish Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there reading today’s edition. Keep your awesomeness up!
?
With that being said, let’s start today’s edition with what’s probably been one of the most exciting announcements I’ve seen this week.
?
?Google has officially launched Duet AI for Google Workspace, making it generally available to users worldwide. The introduction of Duet AI aims to elevate your experience by adding AI as a real-time collaborator, much like Microsoft’s Copilot but better.
?
This AI assistant can act as a coach, source of inspiration, and productivity booster, all while ensuring user data privacy. Imagine the convenience of having Duet AI generate a presentation summary for you or even attend meetings on your behalf!
?
You can catch the summarised video of the event edited by Matt Wolfe in this link. Really worth a watch if you want to see how Duet AI creates a presentation from a template, fetching documents from your drive in just seconds from just a single prompt!
?
?Another exciting article was this one from OpenAI. They released a comprehensive guide tailored for educators who are keen on integrating ChatGPT into their classrooms.
?
This guide encompasses suggested prompts, a deep dive into how ChatGPT operates, its limitations, the effectiveness of AI detectors, and potential biases. The article shares inspiring stories of educators leveraging ChatGPT to enhance student learning.
?
For instance, Dr. Helen Crompton from Old Dominion University uses ChatGPT for role-playing challenging conversations, allowing students to explore information in a conversational setting. Fran Bellas, a professor in Spain, employs ChatGPT to craft quizzes and lesson plans, while Dr. Anthony Kaziboni from the University of Johannesburg uses it to assist non-English speaking students in improving their English proficiency
?
The article also provides example prompts that educators can utilize to kickstart their journey with ChatGPT in the classroom, so if you’re a trainer, teacher or educator, this is a very valuable resource.
?
?On the international front, this week I shared an article explaining that the U.S. has expanded its restrictions on the export of sophisticated AI chips from Nvidia and AMD, extending beyond China to include certain countries in the Middle East.
?
While Nvidia stated that these curbs, affecting its A100 and H100 chips, would not have an immediate significant impact on its revenue, AMD received a similar notification. Last year, the U.S. imposed export controls targeting China's tech capabilities, and it's unclear what risks the Middle East poses in this context.
?
Nvidia, AMD, and Intel have since disclosed plans to produce less powerful AI chips for the Chinese market. As geopolitical tensions rise, how will these export restrictions influence the global AI landscape and its stakeholders?

?In the meantime, Chinese tech behemoth Baidu has officially unveiled its chatbot, Ernie Bot, following government approval. This new entrant, similar to ChatGPT, allows users to pose questions, assist in drafting market analyses, generate marketing slogans, and even summarize documents.
?
Despite its global availability, users need a Chinese number to register. Interestingly, Ernie Bot amassed over a million users within the first 19 hours post-launch. However, it's crucial to note that all AI companies, including Baidu, had to align with China's generative AI guidelines, emphasizing the "core values of socialism" and ensuring training data sources are government-approved.
?
Since I can’t get my hands on it, I’d be curious to hear from anyone who has had the chance to play with it.
?
?Tesla is investing over $1 billion in its Dojo supercomputer by the end of 2024, aiming to advance its autonomous vehicle software development. First introduced by Elon Musk in 2019, Dojo is tailored for training machine learning models essential for video processing, enabling vehicles to achieve self-driving capabilities.
Despite having to intervene during his livestream presentation of the self-driving technology before the car went through a red light, he envisions the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system to soon surpass human driving proficiency, aiming for a safety level 10 times better than the average human.
?
With such ambitious goals, the question arises: As Tesla pushes the boundaries of AI and autonomous driving, how will this massive investment reshape the future of transportation and AI integration?
?
?And as per usual, let’s finish up with a research article. Government agencies, including the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Health and Human Services, the Defence Health Agency, and state health divisions, are leveraging AI-powered document understanding to enhance patient experiences and potentially save lives.
?
By quickly processing and understanding countless health documents, AI is not only streamlining administrative tasks but also ensuring timely care and minimizing errors. This move highlights the transformative role of AI in healthcare that we continue to see in this space.
?
And that's all for this week!
?
You’ve probably noticed a slightly different format, so don’t be shyj and let me know what you think about it in the comments.
?
Have a great week ahead!
