TikTok is testing its own AI chatbot called "Tako" in select markets. Doesn't Tako remind you of Snapchat's My AI? The era of AI-powered chatbots is rapidly spreading on social media platforms. We believe Instagram is also not far behind. Stay tuned!

The chatbot, Tako, appears on the right-hand side of the TikTok interface and allows users to ask questions or request video recommendations. Tako suggests questions related to the video being watched and provides recommendations based on user queries. It is being tested in various global markets, including an early limited test in the Philippines, but is not currently available to minors or in the United States. TikTok is using a third-party AI provider for Tako and has customized it to suit its needs. The chatbot is considered experimental, and TikTok advises users that its feedback may not be accurate. Tako conversations are reviewed for safety purposes and to enhance the user experience, but the privacy and data retention policies are unclear. The introduction of the AI chatbot could potentially pose a threat to Google as it offers a different way for users to discover content within the TikTok app.

Adobe Photoshop is introducing new generative AI features called Firefly that allow users to enhance their images. These features include extending images with Firefly-generated backgrounds, adding objects to images using generative AI, and using a generative fill feature to remove objects more precisely. These capabilities are initially available in the beta version of Photoshop and are also accessible to Firefly beta users on the web. Users can use natural language text prompts to describe the desired image or object for Firefly to create. The integration sends parts of an image to Firefly, which generates new layers for the results. Firefly performs well with landscapes but struggles with text. Adobe has implemented safety measures to ensure appropriate results and plans to bring Firefly to its photo management tool, Lightroom, in the future.
