?? Apple Intelligence is here: a line of integrated AI tools with serious user privacy measures

On Monday, Apple lifted the curtain on Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system integrated into iPhone, iPad, and Mac, designed to enhance user experience through generative models and leveraging personal context.

“Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user’s personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them. This is AI as only Apple can deliver it, and we can’t wait for users to experience what it can do.” — Tim Cook, CEO

This system is embedded in iOS 18 (now freshly available for download), iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, utilizing Apple silicon for advanced language and image processing, while maintaining high privacy standards through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.

Apple Intelligence offers features like systemwide Writing Tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text, and new capabilities in Mail and Notifications to prioritize important messages and reduce interruptions.

Users can also record, transcribe, and summarize audio in Notes and Phone apps, and create fun images with Image Playground. Additionally, the new Genmoji feature allows users to create personalized emojis. Enhanced search in Photos and advanced video search capabilities provide more control over media.

Siri now benefits from richer language understanding and deeper integration, capable of handling complex tasks and maintaining context across interactions. User privacy is protected with on-device processing and cryptographic verification for server interactions.

Apple also integrates ChatGPT, allowing users to access its expertise and image generation capabilities within Apple's ecosystem, with privacy protections built in.

Kling is an open-access model that generates highly realistic videos from simple text prompts. This model can produce videos up to two minutes long (as opposed to Sora’s maximum of one minute), in full 1080p quality, at 30 frames per second. It excels in accurately simulating real-world physical properties, making the generated videos not only visually appealing but also realistic in behavior. The advanced technology behind Kling includes a diffusion transformer architecture.

Kling isn't the first AI video generation model from China: Vidu AI was introduced in April, developed by Tsinghua University and ShengShu Technology, capable of creating 16-second videos in 1080p resolution. (You can read more about it in AI Weekly’s May 2 edition.) Now, Kling is offering longer videos.

Kling is currently available as a public demo in China, allowing users to experience its capabilities firsthand.

You can watch the demo videos here. If you happen to have a Chinese phone number, you can download the app and try it out yourself.
