AI and Transformation

AI and Transformation

There is ample scientific, archeological and historical evidence that humans first evolved from Africa and yet Africa will be the last Continental beneficiary of human transformation.?

Western Civilization is now addicted, enslaved to regimes fueled by drugs and fossil fuels.?

Billions are being spent and wars are being waged to as the fate of Civilization itself hangs in the balance. As related by Victor Davis Hanson in The End of Everything.

wars descend into the annihilation of Civilization.?

The Revival of Everything

In America, we are witnesses to how the most advanced scientific, technological and most powerful Superpower can devolve into ruin because of division; both political and economic and indigenous, Uncivil warfare.?

America is in process of evolving from a coal/oil-based power production, a process that has taken 50+ years, as Vaclav Smil reported.?

Now, both the U.S. and Saudi Arabia are converting to gas - natural gas, a cleaner solution to climate change than coal or oil.?

The Economist:?Wood Mackenzie, a consultancy, reckons that (Saudi Arabia) will disburse more than $200bn on exploration and production between 2024 and 2030, far and away the most in the industry. Saudi Arabia’s energy program, led by Aramco, will spend this sum to increase the kingdom’s oil exploration and production while minimizing the attendant release of methane gas with “detection, control and decarbonization.”

Note: Saudi Arabia ultimately intends to be the world’s leading exporter of natural gas and will contend with the U.S. and Russia in achieving this status.?

AI and Transformation?

AI is transforming business, government and healthcare,- but not without a helping (human) hand.

The Economist: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) can be described as the art of getting computers to do things that humans consider intelligent. In this sense it is already pervasive.?

Satnav software uses search algorithms to find the quickest route from your house to that new restau-rant; airplanes land themselves; traffic cameras use optical character recognition to identify the letters on the number plate of a speeding car; thermostats adjust their temperature settings based on who is at home.

This is all Al, even if it is not marketed as such. When Al works consistently and reliably, runs an old joke, it is just called engineering. (Conversely AI, goes another joke, is the stuff that does not quite work yet.)

The AI that is hogging so much of the world's attention now-and sucking up huge amounts of computing power and electricity -is based on a technique called?deep learning. In deep learning linear algebra (specifically, matrix multiplications) and statistics are used to extract, and thus learn, patterns from large datasets during the training process.?

AI and Global Trade

My Comment: AI has yet to be utilized in determining which of the many international trade finance techniques is most appropriate to finance a particular company’s needs. America’s global trade record, compounded by the ignorance of our politicians and regulators, makes it clear that a lot of work needs to be done to make AI global trade compatible and helpful. This requires statesmanship according to FDR and?Education. As Napoléon declared: It is essential that the morals and political ideas of the generation which is now growing up should no longer be dependent on the news of the day or the circumstances of the moment...Men already differ enough in their inclinations, their characters and everything that education does not give and cannot reform...Let us have a body of doctrine that does not vary and a body of teachers that doesn't die."

Despite the billions spent on AI development, nothing to my knowledge has been spent in applying AI and Operations Research to global trade and energy resource utilization and distribution. (The Transportation/Allocation Problem in OR.) The grid needs help as more and more power will be needed for the data centers that drive AI. Continents also need help in utilizing the Trifecta of their natural, organic resources in order to transform their economies.

History records that global trade is existential to, and intimately related to the sustainability of civilizations.?

Africa now has a great choice, one of devolving into the darkness of war and violence or of continuing its evolution, its enlightenment in the direction of Democracy:

The First Duty of a Statesman is to Educate - FDR

The rapid pace of technological advancements brings great promise and potential, but also introduces potential risks and peril.
