AI …. Oh yes….

I hosted an event this week.? It is one that I am lucky enough to host regularly and so in a loose sense I am in charge of the agenda.

I began with returning to my 2024 prediction about TikTok Shop - that the “luddites” in the room (27 people out of 28) should all be on TikTok Shop. The answer a year later was 3 had tried, none made any money … and if I was to predict the position in a years time… I won’t have many CEOs from these businesses waving this channel as their route to salvation.

So having began so “well”, I had intended to keep AI off the agenda, as I thought it was a rather hackneyed topic about content creation.

The topic crept in … and with my usual lack of control the agenda slipped and I am so glad it did as it opened my eyes.

We had early adopters of AI in the room with real examples of business benefits.

These began with the benefits of downloading reviews into Copilot to understand the pain points of customers, then the use of Gorgias to reduce and unify customer service - 35% non human- and then the best one for me, the AI on the back of the returns platform, Swap, which genuinely was driving behavioural change.

Tangible commercial benefits with clear use cases.? I stand corrected, there is benefit in discussing AI.?I personally need to pick up my own understanding of the opportunities. I will start sharing as I learn.

So, to close, TikTok Shop wasn't for this group the sweet answer to success.? I feel much more confident that AI will be.
