Since the birth of Chat GBT, we have seen an explosion of AI-related apps and websites dedicated to assisting us in all aspects of our lives. While most of the apps are geared toward a neurotypical population, we have also seen a sizable increase in creations dedicated to children and young adults with behavioral needs including autism. I have always been fascinated by AI and its capabilities and I am even more excited to see where the field of ABA, OT, and SLP with it as a tool in its tool kit.?
As a center, we subscribe to Autism Today, which shares exciting updates via email every month. If you haven’t already, consider signing up for their communications. I am always keen to learn about new evidence-based approaches to care and other useful resources. This past week's publication featured a company called Arrows AI Social Interaction Platform. I was intrigued not only by the name but also by the polished visuals, prompting me to read more about it. To my surprise and genuine interest, this company has created a social interaction platform for learning and practicing social skills through realistic conversations with avatars based on generative AI. Arrows call this generative AI a “Skills Coach,” and I love that! Incredibly, their Skills Coach can identify errors in real time and provide prompts for corrective actions using visual cues and textual feedback to improve skills. Essentially, they support users in preparation for real-life interactions.

Their company mission is strong and aligns quite closely with that of REACH. Arrows AI is dedicated to improving social skills, enhancing self-efficacy, and promoting better well-being, social integration, and workforce integration. Their commitment to these values is evident in their innovative approach, providing users with the tools they need to thrive both socially and professionally.
For our new readers out there, REACH is located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The landscape for options in care is limited due to our sheer size. And to my knowledge, a resource such as this is not currently available. What’s so amazing about this resource is that it can be used anytime, anywhere. If you have a child or family member who struggles with social interactions consider using this resource as a supportive tool. Not convinced?
