AI: A Tool to Complement, Not Replace, Human Potential

In my recent conversation with Todd Matzkin-Bridger on the Understanding The Science of You Podcast , he asked about artificial intelligence, which seems to be on everyone's mind these days. Todd asked me how I see AI's role in our future, especially in terms of whether it could eventually take over jobs or if it will leave human potential behind.?
"Is there going to be jobs for people? How is it going to make people feel? I wanted to get your take just in general, and where you think AI is going and how you feel about it."
My perspective on AI is that it can absolutely be a valuable tool. When it comes to efficiency—like processing large amounts of data—it’s a game changer.?
But I’m not convinced that AI will or should take over the human qualities that are irreplaceable, like creativity, empathy, and compassion. It’s not about whether AI could one day outsmart us; I think the real question is:?
Why are we so quick to assume that we can’t improve ourselves as well??
Why aren’t we more focused on how we can continue to grow, innovate, and think critically, just as technology evolves?
While I see a place for AI, especially in task-specific areas, I’m more interested in how it can complement human strengths, not replace them.?

Take something like a personal assistant robot—something like "Rosie the Robot" from The Jetsons—that could help with personal goals or provide moral support. AI can support us in these ways, but it’s still up to us, as humans, to create and innovate in ways that technology can’t match.
I don’t see a future where AI takes over everything; instead, I see it as a tool that, if used correctly, can unlock human potential. But that only works if we don’t simply sit back and let technology dictate what happens next.?
The key is for us to continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible and take an active role in creating our future—not letting AI define it for us.
