Welcome to Edition 4 of AI in Tech Writing, a fortnightly newsletter on the exciting things that happen in technical writing and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) space.
Introduction
As GenAI becomes more integrated into technical writing, upskilling in these capabilities is essential. It is important to understand how GenAI generates content, and how to fine-tune them. Technical writers need to upskill themselves in prompt engineering techniques so they can solve some basic use cases such as changing tone, producing article outlines, rewriting content based on certain style guides and so on. Technical writers need to learn basic GenAI techniques such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) which is widely used in Chatbot. This helps to write more GenAI-friendly content so the synergy between GenAI and content is further enhanced.
Given the hype around LLM Agent which can do or act based on prompts, technical writers need to be educated on how LLM Agent works and how it can be leveraged to perform certain task in technical writing. Adapting to new technology landscape, learning AI technology and incorporating AI tech in their work should be the mantra for technical writer. Keep learning!!

European Union Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act) is a risk-based regulation introduced by European Union (EU). Any organization that sells products and services to the EU market must comply with this AI Act. The EU AI Act ensures that harmony, fairness, and transparency is preserved in society so that companies building AI systems have a fair go. This regulation is very similar to GDPR where EU set global standards on how personal data is being collected, managed and used.?

The EU AI Act mentions about “AI Literacy” whereby providers and deployers of the AI system shall share their technical knowledge, train and educate their customer on how those AI systems are being developed, implemented and how to use them effectively. This helps the whole community in terms of upskilling and use AI systems as part of their day-to-day activities.
