AI and Tech- A different take

In a world where, ChatGPT is a rage and everyone now knows about LLMs and how machines can be trained, yet nobody speaks of its carbon footprint, let’s sit down and think if such kind of AI is of any benefit to the society at large.

Internet is definitely a boon, but dotcom bubble went boom. AI is going the same way – becoming unsustainable. So, what would sustain? The lessons we learn along the way. The powerful machines can unleash big problems for the computing we run today, but can it disrupt our lives? The answer is careful no.

We need something disruptive from AI space to change how the world works today. There are small targeted usecases that help humans in some ways, But we are limited to that. Guess, living in so called Agile world is taking a toll on us.

Our vision for AI must turn disruptive first, we need to think how we want to change the world and invent around it, rather than stay happy with the AI toys we have today, be it GANs, ChatGPT, et al.

Having said that, I completely acknowledge, AI is helping bring in some real-world changes in research and legal fields. But those are just tip of the iceberg. We need to think beyond MVPs to really exploit what AI can do for us and ensure it is always safe to be around.

First, we need to have a vision of the world, we want to live in, then we need to work on process of getting there, chart out a path, ensure adoption, develop the required technology.

Here's my vision and the kind of tech it would need :

Humans need to slow down to lead a normal life again, which is without the stress, has enough time to connect to self, to fellow living beings and nature and have the human empathy. So we need to have a process i.e. population coming down, consumerism has to come down, businesses need to be ok with flat curve growth, inflation has to run around zero. This would definitely need adoption from businesses, from organizations, from people.

Yet, we can surely talk about the technology part. We need technology to rationalize not imitate. Tech that would assist and automate, not the low hanging fruit, but the hazardous environments. Come up with intelligence on making the living safe and liveable for everyone including the flora and fauna. Not just get netZero in next 20-30 years but have technology to grow more trees and cleanse the environment, so all life can sustain, and we can live in self-sustaining ecosystem. Tech that can move out of crypto currency and bring the human focus on quantum and AI to augment human efficiency and entangle the business profits with the wellbeing of its employees, customers and the planet.

These are not wishful ideas, but technology that can be really implemented, we just need focus and interest. In the following articles, I would expand on each of the ideas from the technology point of view.
