AI - Taking Your First Steps
You might have seen on the Snepo instagram that we started an event series in partnership with Maximus called Zero Sum Games. The aim is to expose Australian corporates to the latest technology advancements (including AI) and help prepare them for the onslaught of disruption that will rock companies to their core and challenge their very existence.
The world is in a deceptively quiet period (the calm before the storm) in which countries, radical scientists and billionaire backers are aggressively developing and applying early, rudimentary models of artificial intelligence.
While AI continues to be a controversial topic, the implications are still not completely understood.
What's happening now*:
- Demand for AI experts is through the roof, and supply can’t keep up. Just 90,000 people worldwide have AI research skills, according to a February study from Element AI, making for intense demand for those who do possess the needed skills.
- Even with only rudimentary artificial models of your brain, scientists are designing systems that try to imitate how humans make decisions. Basic behaviour modelling is the bread and butter of social networks like Facebook, often used to improve advertising. Netflix and Spotify suggest which show to watch or song to play based on complex artificial intelligence algorithms that even I find spooky in their ability to predict my taste.
- Facebook is already building technology that would allow people to type with their thoughts.
- Companies could be compelled to share this data with the government in certain cases, Whittaker said, or could build a business selling it to employers or health insurers.
For those who want to go deeper:
Do: Start thinking about how AI is driving behavioural changes. Artificial intelligence is now a key ingredient in customer engagement.

6 年I would say, ‘be careful what you wish for’. I think AI is definitely going to impact humans and the way we work in the future. As someone passionate about inclusion and harnessing the best person possible for roles, for contribution, for making of a more productive and collaborative world, I wonder who are the people putting in the data to build AIs? Would AI be able to detect those subtle or often not so subtle differences in our human race? I am also keen to know and understand what would be the menial tasks, repetitive and boring ones, that these AIs can do instead of humans? And how are we reskilling or preparing the people whose lives depend on these menial tasks? Just asking? ?? I think AIs can play a huge role in medicine for example or even in dangerous situations like in war zones. But when it comes to small and repetitive tasks we should think about the ability of humans to contribute. Hence, it’s important that those currently in the space, should look at how inclusive and how diverse the perspectives are, of those building AIs. Great to see you here Penny Wong Jon Wilson! ?? Thanks for the article Ben Moir.

6 年I find the fear of AI stealing jobs quite funny ??. In my opinion, AI will help move humans up the value chain, to augment capabilities and preserve manpower. Let humans spend more time with humans, perhaps do some volunteer work with the extra time gained ??. To be honest, if a job was so repetitive and boring to begin with and can be automated, it should be done! It’s just mean to watch and allow a fellow human do repetitive work ??♀? when it can be automated. ??♀?
