AI Takes Over CES: From Bird Feeders to the Future of Work
I didn't attend CES this year, but the show is unfolding as expected. This year’s buzzword is “AI,” it is being pitched as an integral part of every new product–no matter how far-feteched. PCs are AI devices, of course, but they also include monitors, security cameras, refrigerators, grills, vacuums,? and, yes, bird feeders. Despite the piling on, the show's highlight was probably Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote. Nvidia, no doubt, has the most legitimate claims to the AI buzz machine.
Huang laid out a vision for the future of AI that was very much connected to the world of hardware, which makes sense for a CES keynote. The company unveiled NVIDIA's latest marvel: the GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, with the flagship RTX 5090 boasting double the performance of its predecessor.? He also introduced the Cosmos platform, designed to advance physical AI for robots and autonomous vehicles.
?"We started by teaching computers to understand images, words, and sounds. Then we taught them to create text, pictures, and audio," Huang said in the keynote. "Now we're teaching them to understand and interact with the physical world." AI is moving from language models to the real world, from robotics to self-driving cars.?
Despite the lofty presentation, Nvidia’s stock actually dropped after this presentation. Even Nvdia's epic performance still falls short of market expectations. For more on Nvidia’s complicated investment profile, check out Max Isaacman’s deep dive into Nvidia's performance on Worth.
In other news, we are making our final plans for Davos. I will be moderating a panel titled “Agentic AI & the Future of Work: Getting the Most Out of Human and Machine Collaboration with Malay Joshi from Wipro. Be prepared to see the word “agentic” a lot in 2025.? There are also still seats available at our CMO breakfast, Reimagining Reputation for a New World Order. And we will do interviews in our studio on the promenade on Tuesday and Wednesday. Let me know if you will be in town and want to catch up.?
I should also share that the Groundbreaking Women Summit: Rise and Lead conference will now be on Apr 9, 2025 in New York City. We had a problem with our venue, but the date is locked and won’t move again. Feel free to register to attend or nominate speakers.
