Lots of things happened so let's jump into it.

The AI takeover (in the creator economy)

The success of OpenAI 's ChatGPT went berserk, and creator economy startups were quick to adopt it. Podcastle , Kajabi , Gumroad , and Mighty Networks have all launched AI-powered features to help creators with tasks like cloning their voice, generating ideas for courses, transcribing videos, and providing recommendations. Great features IMO, I see how this would make the creators’ work easier. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg with AI features in the creator space. The main challenge here is that creators must find ways to differentiate themselves in a sea of AI-generated content.?

Canada follows the US in banning TikTok

Following the US and the EU’s executive branch, Canada bans TikTok on government-issued devices. On one side, some have concerns about China influencing the platforms’ algorithm and gaining access to users' data. On the other hand, some highlight that banning TikTok is a violation of free speech rights. I’m on the fence about this and frankly, tired of reading about it. It's gonna be a long debate. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.?

WhatsApp plots a newsletter feature?

According to WaBetaInfo, a blog that tracks new WhatsApp developments, the app is developing a "private newsletter tool" that will allow users to broadcast information to many people at once. The new feature is expected to provide a "one-to-many tool for broadcasting information." This is an incredible opportunity for WhatsApp. With 2 billion daily active users, it could become a major player in the newsletter industry and provide a superior newsletter experience by offering users the ability to read all newsletters in-app. Also, the engagement rate on WhatsApp is much higher than any other platform, which is great news for brands looking to reach a larger audience.?

Snoop Dogg’s TikTok-exclusive music catalog release

Death Row Records catalog, which includes famous rap albums like 2Pac's "All Eyez On Me" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle," is now available exclusively on TikTok through the SoundOn platform. Snoop Dogg acquired the Death Row catalog last year and pulled it from streaming services, and will now re-release it exclusively on TikTok before it's released on other streaming platforms a week later. Very interesting move. Dan Runcie , founder of research group Trapital , broke it down well, and I too am curious how much they paid Snoop Dogg for this release. Song exploration is one of the key benefits of TikTok and wouldn’t be surprised if other artists follow suit.?

Instagram is shutting down live shopping

Instagram is shutting down its live shopping feature starting March 16th. While they say their aim is to focus on features that offer the most value to users, the decision to sunset live shopping is not surprising. The inability of U.S. social media platforms to successfully implement live shopping is the biggest part of it. While other platforms like 亚马逊 , TikTok , and YouTube are still investing in live shopping experiences in the hopes of reaching the Asian market’s success, I think there’s a long way to go to get there.

As Ange Michael AHYI says, a shy week for creator economy investments, with only $1M raised on 2 rounds.
