AI Summit: Human Intelligence takes centre stage

After a full day chairing The AI Summit Series 's Industries Stage, it was fascinating to see how these technologies are evolving across a host of different sectors. AI clearly has the power to be tremendously powerful, but within that theme was a recurring thread about the need to keep people in the loop too. From the importance of using AI as an assistive technology, utilising the combination of "Human Intelligence + Artificial Intelligence". Also, the importance of not losing sight of your audiences/customers too. Not to mention businesses ensuring they can walk before they can run with these technologies.

We opened the day with Lee Glazier from Rolls-Royce highlighting some of the ways AI is being used in manufacturing of key components, but also how the ethical and safe integration of AI is critical in sectors like aerospace and nuclear - including introducing us to the (Aletheia Framework?). Then 英国电信集团 's Dr. Detlef Nauck demonstrated how applied generative AI is revolutionising the telecommunications industry, improving operations and services. AIQ 's presentation on AI's role in the energy sector also emphasised responsible AI implementation, particularly in data management and security.

Next, we heard about how the gaming industry is embracing AI from Anything World 's Gordon Midwood ???? , who illustrated how AI is ushering in a "new golden age" by streamlining game development processes, making it more accessible and efficient. While 欧莱雅 's Jean-Paul Paoli illustrated how generative AI is driving content creation and marketing innovation.

The "Great Debate" session (featuring Sudeshna Sen , Gopkiran Rao , BENlabs 's Alex McFadyen , and Pierre-Nicolas Mahieu from Shopify ) further explored generative AI's impact on data analytics, emphasizing the need to balance automation with human expertise to ensure data reliability and transparency.

Then came the sneak peek at some of the key insights from our soon-to-be-released research at Ipsos UK for the BBC , with Katherine Jameson Armstrong and renuka gupta sharing insights into audience perceptions of AI, emphasising the importance of building audience-centric media strategies that leverage AI responsibly.

Simon Ball 's captivating "Spotlight Session" showcased the democratising power of AI, recounting his journey of creating an Oscar-qualifying film using AI tools with minimal resources was truly inspiring.

I hope our audience enjoyed our second panel as much as I did (not least because I was on it!), but we could have talked for much longer than the time we had allotted on how AI is reshaping marketing, the need for ethical standards and a balance between data-driven approaches and customer privacy. So thanks to Matthew Blakemore for chairing and my fellow panellists Sara Chapman of adam&eveDDB and Tom Hewitson from General Purpose Training .

Matthew Blakemore then returned to close out our day, exploring AI's potential to spark a new industrial revolution, emphasising the need for responsible governance to navigate the societal and economic shifts it may bring. And also introduced us to his new AI Band: The Fikas!

All in all another great day spent listening, learning and talking to people about where AI is today and where it going tomorrow.

Thanks for hosting us Tim, and to the other speakers, was a really interesting time all round
