AI will succeed!

Recognize the man! He is John McCarthy, one of the founders of the discipline of Artificial Intelligence. Sadly, he passed away in 2011, just 4 years before Sophia was activated. If the two would have met, it would have led to a phenomenal dialog. She is a manifestation of AI and she has a rockstar status. It's a little-known fact that she has 7 siblings.

Over the last year or so, the buzz around AI is heating up. The entire spectrum, right from start-ups to corporate boardrooms are embracing and evangelizing artificial intelligence.

Here, in India, the government made a bold move by announcing a "National Center for AI" in their annual 2018 budget presentation. Most Indians are surprised that the Government & its leadership is aware, well-informed and actively propagating AI. Here is a recent pitch by Prime Minister Modi on use of AI and Blockchain in Agriculture.

Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking have raised red flags on AI and how it can harm humankind. These risks are well founded and need to be mitigated. Sunder Pichai made a great point that world leaders must agree to not use AI for military purposes.

The application of AI for the common person and day-to-day use is starting to manifest. Some applications that are already working are Google Duplex (Concierge services), PathAI (Cancer Diagnosis), Open Agriculture (OpenAG) initiative (see from min 14, Agriculture Research), Skills Alpha (Skill Development) and BB8 by NVIDIA (Car Driving).

At Skills Alpha, we deployed a Skill BoT that has cognition capability thanks to AI. It allows the learner to have an intimate human-machine interaction about their aspirations, existing skills and plot their skill acquisition journey for the future role. There is no inhibition or judgment in this dialog. It is liberating for the learner.

I believe that AI will truly revolutionize the way we live and it will have a profound impact on the core principles of human life on this planet. For the first time we will be able to truly, go beyond the human intelligence, harness our collective knowledge and find solutions for fundamental problems like hunger, climate and terminal illnesses. If we go beyond these issues, the world will be a happier place and we would grow out of our infancy.

For the uninitiated, here is an introductory video on AI and a fun interview with Sophia.
