Telecom operators scale back 5G and broadband investments in 2024

According to a recently published report from Dell’Oro Group?telecom operators are now scaling back their investments in 5G and fixed broadband technologies. Preliminary findings show that the more challenging conditions that shaped the second half of 2023 extended into the first half of 2024. Worldwide telecom capex, the sum of wireless and wireline/other telecom carrier investments, declined 10% year-over-year (YoY) in the first half of 2024, partly due to built-up inventory, weaker demand in China,?India and US, challenging 5G comparisons, excess capacity and elevated uncertainty.

The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) has announced that Caroline Chan, VP in the network and edge group at Intel Corporation and current TIP board member, has been elected president.

Advanced Energy Launches 1,300 W DC-DC converter for telecom base stations

Advanced Energy has announced a new DC-DC converter module. This 1,300 W device delivers a 28 V output in an industry-standard half-brick form factor, significantly reducing energy consumption while offering integrated remote digital control capabilities.

The Advanced Energy Artesyn ADH1300-48S28 DC-DC converter is designed for telecom wireless base stations and other equipment that have radio frequency power amplifiers (RFPAs). The converter has an efficiency of nearly 96% at full load. In addition, its thermal design is good for Ingress Protection (IP)-sealed enclosures such as remote radio head (RRH) equipment that require contact-cooled devices. A PMBus interface enables remote configuration, monitoring and control, reducing maintenance costs.
