AI: some basic definitions we all should now before discussing about GenerativeAI
Of course one of the most discussed topics these days is AI with it’s implications for the future and speculation around the question which company will be the most successful one in this space. I think there is no denial that the importance of AI will increase in the upcoming years and the pace of it's adoption is likely to accelerate. As Mark Cuban put it: Artificial Intelligence, deep learning, machine learning — whatever you’re doing if you don’t understand it — learn it. Because otherwise, you’re going to be a dinosaur within 3 years.”
For me that was a good time to check again I have the fundamentals right before diving deeper into the topic. Therefore I collected info pieces from various sources that were interesting from my perspective.
The first one who gave a definition for AI was Marvin Minsky in 1966 : ?Artificial Intelligence is the science of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men."?
Even though often used as synonyms there is a difference between AI, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Where AI is the broadest definition.
Over the last years we saw an acceleration of usage of AI due to popular programs but in the upcoming years AI will also become a massive factor for the economy :
With ChatGPT and Midjourney Genrative AI is the talk of the town. According to Wikipedia: A?generative artificial intelligence?or?generative AI?is a type of AI system capable of generating text, images, or other media in response to?prompts.?Generative AI systems use?generative models?such as?large language models?to statistically sample new data based on the?training data set?that was used to create them.

?And also has a prediction how the quality will develop:
The further we advance with Generative AI technologies it is definitely interesting to see how questions over important issues like copyright, trust & safety and costs are developing in the future.
The?datasets behind generative AI models?are generally scraped from the internet without seeking consent from living artists or work still under copyright. “If these models have been trained on the styles of living artists without licensing that work, there are?copyright implications,” according to Daniela Braga, who sits on the White House Task Force for AI Policy. The problem with copyright is also visible in the field of autocompleted code. Microsoft's GitHub Copilot is involved in a class action lawsuit alleging the system has been built on “software piracy on an unprecedented scale.” Copilot has been trained on public code repositories scraped from the web, which in many cases, are published with licenses that require crediting creators when reusing their code.
For all of us it is too early to know exactly how and when AI will impact our lives but I am sure we still underestimate the impact it will ultimately have. Bill Gates said: "In my lifetime, I’ve seen two demonstrations of technology that struck me as revolutionary. One of them being the graphical user interface, the second one being AI. He writes: The development of AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone. It will change the way people work, learn, travel, get health care, and communicate with each other. Entire industries will reorient around it. Businesses will distinguish themselves by how well they use it."
I can understand a lot of positions around AI as a new technology: people being amazed, people fearing the implications, creators being frustrated. For me it is certainly too early to take a definitive position bur one thing is for sure: we need to learn as much as possible about the topic. Therefore I would be thankful for any good reads about the topic.
Thanks for the article Johannis! I did start a course on basics in coursera as the first jumping board. There are levels that you can build on your knowledge. It has definitely come to stay...and help us! ??

1 年Very interested in more about this. I already get started with reading a book about ML.
Great article Johannis. One of the key challenges going forward will be to know what's/who's real vs. AI/ bot-generated. Who's real we answer at fraud0.com ??
