AI: separating fiction, fakery and overhype from reality
AI as a Fiction
The Greek god Hephaestus was depicted in myths as forging robot-like servants out of gold, while engineers in ancient Egypt built statues of gods animated by hidden mechanisms operated by priests.
The notion of machines with human-like intelligence and body dates back at least to Talos,
As a human-competing intelligence, AI, AGI and ASI are nothing but a Hollywood sci-fi dystopian fiction, from the Terminator’s Skynet. ANNs-based AGSS, to the Blade Runner's engineered humanoids with amplified physical and intellectual abilities to the Matrix's Agents to the Ex Machina's Ava to the Westworld’s Hosts, biomechanical conscious humanoid robots to the Atlas' humanoid AI Harlan to the Last Screenwriter written by ChatGPT.
The team at AIPRM created A Compendium of the Most Iconic Artificial Intelligence From Fiction, highlighting 60 of the most iconic AI characters depicted in film, television, comic books, and video games over the past century
The worldbuilding of imaginary worlds and fictional universes is acceptable for fiction, sci-fi, films, video games, comics, novels or speculative fiction, as utopia or dystopia, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fiction.
AI as a Fakery and Overhype
Today, the fictional, human-like AI is capitalized by major techno-oligopolies, as “the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems”, with all the fictional world of false assumptions, as pictured below.
Big tech companies — Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and Nvidia — are betting big on humanoid AI.?
In all, the big tech fake AI arms race involves 75+ AI startups backed by Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia...
As a matter of fact, such an AI is largely artificial hallucination (bullshitting, confabulation or delusion), when falsity presented as factuality, thus corrupting reality.
AI as Reality
In reality, AI is about reality, the world, the universe, its basic facts, laws and truths, being the object of ontology, science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics (O-STREAM).
Real, True AI is Safe and Secure, Responsible and Trustworthy, as requested by Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence

"Artificial intelligence (AI) holds extraordinary potential for both promise and peril.? Responsible AI use has the potential to help solve urgent challenges while making our world more prosperous, productive, innovative, and secure.? At the same time, irresponsible use could exacerbate societal harms such as fraud, discrimination, bias, and disinformation; displace and disempower workers; stifle competition; and pose risks to national security.? Harnessing AI for good and realizing its myriad benefits requires mitigating its substantial risks".?
Again, in science, engineering, and technology, all our fictions are nothing but falsities, lies, or frauds.
What many are failing to grasp, there are two radically different types of computing/technological/machine intelligence:
Artificial Human Intelligence, as human-mimicking, fake or false AI, AGI or ASI owned by big tech (Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, Tesla).
Artificial Machine Intelligence, as non-human, true AI, Real Machine Intelligence and Learning.
The threats of AHI are explained in Pause Giant AI Experiments: An Open Letter, signed by 33707.
AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research and acknowledged by top AI labs.
Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves:
Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth?
Should we automate away all the jobs, including the fulfilling ones?
Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us?
Should we risk loss of control of our civilization? Such decisions must not be delegated to unelected tech leaders.
Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable.
