AI, Robots and Philosophy.
Back in 2018, I went on a road trip with my friend Antonio Villamarin through California, Nevada, and Arizona. As a mathematician and philosopher, his insights were enlightening. It was more than just a journey; it was a gateway to profound discussions about the future and technology.
Today, I revisited those conversations through the lens of 2024. Here are the key insights:
1- Highly Specialized Professionals:
With automation and AI taking over many routine tasks, human labor becomes increasingly focused on specialized roles that require creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. Jobs become more about innovation, problem-solving, and human interaction rather than repetitive tasks.
2- Universal Basic Income:
With fewer jobs available due to automation, society implements a universal basic income to ensure everyone has access to the necessities of life. This allows individuals to pursue education, creative endeavors, or, simply, enjoy leisure time.
3- Leisure Consumption:
With basic needs secured by UBI and robotic automation handling productivity, people have more time for leisure activities. Consumption shifts from material goods to experiences, entertainment, travel, education, and personal development. Leisure becomes a central aspect of life, fostering creativity, relaxation, and social connections.

4- Robotic Productivity:
Robots and AI systems handle labor-intensive tasks, from manufacturing to service industries. This boosts productivity, lowers costs, and increases efficiency across various sectors. Humans oversee and manage these robotic systems, ensuring they align with societal needs and values.
5- Robotic Demography:
As automation advances, robots and AI become integral parts of society, not just in the workplace but also in homes and communities. Robots assist with caregiving, household chores, transportation, and other tasks. They adapt to human needs and preferences, playing a significant role and becoming part of demography.
6- Philosophy:
Philosophical thinking takes center stage in our AI-driven society. As robots handle tasks, philosophical inquiry becomes essential for navigating ethical dilemmas, understanding the nature of consciousness in artificial beings, and shaping the values that guide our technological advancements.
Overall, this future society is characterized by a balance between human creativity, leisure, and the efficient utilization of robotic technology. It fosters a culture of innovation, exploration, and well-being while ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities for all members of society.
