Open AI ready to de-throne DeepSeek
Imagine having an expert researcher at your fingertips—one that works tirelessly, sifts through data, and delivers precise, fully cited reports in minutes. That’s exactly what OpenAI’s Deep Research, a new AI-powered agent within ChatGPT, aims to do.
Designed for professionals in finance, science, policy, and engineering, Deep Research tackles in-depth web research, analyzes data, and compiles insights—tasks that usually take humans hours or even days.
A Game-Changer for Research?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman describes Deep Research as "like a superpower; experts on demand!" He even put it to the test, using it to track down a rare NSX car in Japan after nearly giving up on his search.
Here’s how it works: ? Ask a question in ChatGPT’s message composer ?? Attach files or spreadsheets for extra context ? Let the AI work for 5 to 30 minutes ?? Receive a detailed, fully cited report
As of now, these reports are text-only, however, features such as embedded images, data visualtions and other supporting elements will be the coming out in the next few weeks. For now, Pro users get 100 queries per month, with Plus, Team, and Enterprise access coming soon. OpenAI is also working on a faster, more cost-effective version to expand usage limits.
How Does It Stack Up?
Deep Research scored 26.6% accuracy on Humanity’s Last Exam—an AI benchmark for expert-level knowledge—far outpacing competitors like DeepSeek-R-1 (9.4%) and even OpenAI’s own GPT-4o (3.3%).
