AI as a replacement for manmade programs
In December Google’s AlphaZero taught itself how to play chess in 9 hours. Within 4 hours it had reached the level of the unofficial champion of the chess engines: Stockfish. While there have been some skeptics saying that the match was not completely fair related to the processing power given to Stockfish, the lack of an opening book, and a time control that disadvantages the way Stockfish has been programmed, it is still an incredible achievement. Whether it will beat Stockfish with these things remains to be seen, yet it does show the incredible ingenuity that AI brings to the table. Within those couple of hours, it managed to outperform a computer program that was designed by humans and perfected over the years.
In practical terms, an AI could learn to optimize many things and create algorithms which would replace our ‘manmade’ programs. It could optimize your production line, run countless fluid dynamics simulations and design your aerodynamic car/plane to perfection, or it could simply optimize the queues in your retail stores. “Deep Learning will enter all fields”, is what Eyal Miller said, a managing director of an Israel based Samsung investment arm, who has invested in 10 Israeli start-ups, half of them being AI related.
The market for AI has grown almost 63 percent since 2016 and is estimated to be worth 16 billion in 2022. Israel has countless start-ups fuelling this trend. Smart minds are working on what could and will be the next big revolution since the steam engine was invented. That is why many big companies, like Samsung, are looking to Israel in the search of AI oriented start-ups.
The Israeli start-up scene is big, and for a company looking for new AI technologies, it can be very challenging. With our experience in the Israeli high-tech industry, we have assisted multiple companies in their goals of finding new and innovative technologies.
