Ai to replace coders, let's give a try

I tried CodeParrot, a website that provides an AI-based tool to replace coders and create production-ready components in React (and more) from Figma.

I found this website and decided to give it a try to see what we are able to do with AI to replace a coder and produce an A to Z web page.

This website provides a Visual Studio extension that allows you to log in and generate new components directly from your Figma designs.

I gave it one page I needed for a project, a User Profile, and I was surprised to receive an immediate answer proposing a way to split the page into several components.

The proposal seemed not bad at first glance. I put everything into the project and tried to run it.

And surprise !!!

Yes, I was not really expecting it to work, but I thought, why not? Maybe it can access a lot of data from Figma and generate it properly.

I won't say that the tool is not working; maybe I am just unlucky. I won't, of course, take a $19 subscription if the first try ends this way.

But what to think about it?

I feel the product relies a little bit too much on AI to generate what should be a final product, and this is the real mistake.

I see too many new SaaS tools that just wrap a GPT agent and that's all. AI is not a product; it should only be part of it. We still have some time before we will be fully replaced by virtual coders.

Anyway, I still appreciate the tool. It looks promising but needs a little more polish to be worth the price.

What could we expect?

CodeParrot is able to download all the assets for you and put them into an asset folder.

But for the rest, you need to manually create all the files and copy-paste the code. A finished product would have done this for you as well, allowing you to just choose the root folder.

Also, the tool should allow you to request adjustments for each component and update the files directly for you.

Currently, it looks more like a GPT agent outputting into a VS Code container.

But again, with some rework and a real polish, it has good potential.
