AI Will Replace All Human Jobs; Here's How to Future-Proof Yourself
This is currently the most popular myth in tech. But I understand. We've already seen automation change the game in manufacturing and customer service. And even in the one place futurists said we'd all be safe: creative.
But remember that bad news gets clicks. Ad spends backed by fear always win. Also, like that relationship with your ex, the workforce is complicated.
Let's look at healthcare, for example. Yes, it's a hot mess and AI is already helping to diagnose disease. Actually, it's helping doctors and nurses who are really busy take care of their patients better. This way, they can make smarter choices and help more people.
AI isn't so much the thief of all jobs but a compliment to many of them.
Then there's the creation of jobs.
Many would argue that AI is as big of an innovation, if not bigger than the automobile. The mass production of cars put a lot of people out of work. How many horse-drawn carriage operators do you know? Blacksmiths? Horse breeders, railroads, or streetcar operators?
But car production has also created hundreds of millions of jobs since that time.
So is AI coming for your job? Maybe. Are there ways to demystify the AI landscape and look for future opportunities? For sure. You might even be able to learn on the job and start leveraging AI in your professional space. Here's how:

1. Create a mindset of continuous learning.
Especially around skills that complement AI and its applications in your field. Look for all the opportunities for enhancement as rather than replacement. Play with some of the tools, take some courses, and get some hands-on experience.
2. Learn the basics of AI and machine learning.
Leaning into the fundamentals will help you grasp how this is going to hit your industry, and where you can leverage it for opportunities.
3. Double down on your soft skills.
Have your seen all the AI-generated LinkedIn comments? They're shit. At least today they are. Run with that edge and strengthen your creativity, emotional intelligence, and strategic thinking. These are strong compliments to where the technology currently is.
Embracing the changes and preparing for a future where AI and humans work in synergy is the only sane path forward.
The future is not about choosing between humans and AI. That toothpaste is already out of the tube, and we're not getting it back in. But by rejecting the myth and focusing on collaboration and adaptability, you'll see more opportunity and less doom and gloom.
