Is AI Really Coming for Your Job?

Navigating the AI Revolution: How to Thrive in a World Shaped by Emerging Technologies

In a recent conversation with visionary thinker Kevin Kelly , founding editor of Wired magazine and best-selling author, we discussed the profound impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on our lives and work. Here are five crucial points that emerged from our discussion to help you navigate and thrive in a world shaped by AI:

  1. AI will free up time for higher-order creativity: As AI takes over tasks that require more formulaic thinking, individuals can focus on tasks that involve creativity, texture, and phrasing. By embracing the opportunity to focus on these higher-order skills, people may find their work more fulfilling and satisfying, ultimately driving innovation and progress.
  2. AI is transforming audio and video production: The ability to create realistic, human-like voices and images is on the rise, thanks to AI. This technology is already being used in podcasting and audio production, easing the process and allowing creators to deliver high-quality content. However, this also raises concerns about the potential proliferation of deepfakes, making it increasingly difficult to discern reality from falsehood.
  3. Verification and disclosure will be key: In a world where AI-generated content becomes indistinguishable from human-created content, we must rely on verifying the source and demanding disclosure about alterations made to images or videos. News organizations, for example, should commit to providing accurate information, while creators should be transparent about the extent of AI involvement in their work.
  4. Educate people about AI and its implications: As AI becomes an integral part of our lives, it is crucial to educate the public about its potential and limitations. Encouraging people to question the authenticity of content they come across, and helping them understand the importance of verifying sources, will lead to more informed and responsible consumption of information.
  5. Platforms need to adapt to the AI revolution: Social media platforms are increasingly being held accountable for the accuracy and legitimacy of the content they host. As AI-generated content proliferates, platforms will need to find ways to balance their roles as both vehicles for art and journalism, while ensuring they do not inadvertently propagate misinformation.

Understanding and adapting to the rapidly evolving AI landscape is crucial for individuals and organizations alike. By focusing on higher-order creativity, embracing verification and disclosure, educating ourselves and others, and holding platforms accountable, we can thrive in a world shaped by AI.?

ChatGPT and any new technology is only as good (or bad) as the people who use or abuse it. You can't legislate morality or ethics. Rather than try to control, limit, or pause AI, do what Elon Musk has been saying for decades, REGULATE it, and oversee the people who develop it. It's already out of the barn, has burst through the fences and is running for the hills. Talk of "controlling AI" at this point is kind of moot, but it's not too late to develop strategies, set boundaries and address the potential impact it will/can have on us, our families, and our businesses. In other words, the threat is coming, so PREPARE for it, don't worry about trying to control it...

This looks interesting, Jonathan Fields, as always. 1) This link takes us to Asana login (oops): "What is deep work? 7 ways to boost your concentration." 2) I found this interview with Gary Marcus of NYU illuminating: Namely, why not put a Pause on distributing Chat GBT until developers can discern all of the detriments to humanity that aren't yet outweighing the benefits. Thanks for the interview and the work.
