Will AI put a stop to ChatGPT's success?

ChatGPT is on hype; one of every three posts on LinkedIn is about how ChatGPT can do something (not an accurate statistic, but rather a perception).

I think that a world where an AI engine writes everything will be flat; it will lack creativity and variety. But the initial results of content written using ChatGPT seem highly encouraging, as it gives people what they think they want to read.

I had no evidence to back up my thoughts, and I hope I will never have such evidence.

On the other hand, AI itself may be the one putting a barrier to the widespread use of AI-generated content like ChatGPT.

The evidence came from Lucas Lopatin , which showed, in a series of tweets, that there was an initial growth in traffic coming from the search engines and then a sudden drop as they suspected the search engine AI detected ChatGPT-generated content.

In his tweets, he says:

"We launched 10 sites with 500+ articles generated with GPT-3. The vast majority have the curve seen in the graph.

  1. Search engines detect the site.
  2. The search engine likes the content and sends traffic.
  3. The search engine AI detects AI-generated content and kills the site."

He goes on to explain that they used the best SEO practice and edited the ChatGPT-generated articles to correct obvious mistakes. Still, finally, Google, Bing, and DDG identified AI behind the content and killed the sites.

I am not against using AI to ease our workload, for example, part of my job is to curate content for our company blog, and I use AI in the form of a grammar corrector to ease my job, but the decisions about the content are always human.

With an AI-backed chatbot, I may finally find a support chat that will go beyond the four menu options available for me to get help to finally explain to a human what I have already entered in the text interface.

It is funny that we now have such a powerful device on our hands to get back to a text-based interface.

So finally, I asked ChatGPT to create an article using this premise:

"Create an article about how AI can detect text generated through ChatGPR and that the initial search result boost and likes obtained at first could rapidly be demoted as search engines detect text written by ChatGPT."

I include the image of the generated article so this post does not get demoted.
