An AI prosecutor?

I hope some good lawyers are on top of this. HMG calling for opinions on software generated criminal evidence.

It starts with printed lists of debtors while pursing poll tax protestors, and ends up with #neuromancer although unlike in #Blakes7, the judge is not yet an AI.

The problem with modern software is much of it is inference, and completely unsuitable for "beyond reasonable doubt". It's also opaque and likely to fail the tests around if it returns popular vs accurate and authoritative results. It's often wrong and arguably a bullshitter.

The EU's GDPR introduced the right to freedom from profiling, which means a freedom from being processed automatically by computers. This is an important barrier.

I ask if building prosecutor AIs, do we need to build the "Turing Registry"?

Maybe looking for interesting, part-time work as an independent consultant performing IT Risk, Data Protection, Privacy and/or Data Administration roles. I have chosen not to verify for privacy reasons.

My paranoia may have been premature, the BCS welcomes the review as they think it is likely to weaken the presumption of accuracy which currently exists. https://www.bcs.org/articles-opinion-and-research/bcs-welcomes-review-of-use-of-computer-evidence-in-court-following-horizon-scandal/
