AI-powered Ultrasound in Your Pocket

Engineers from UC San Diego developed a wearable device the size of a stamp card to monitor heart conditions. It can be worn for 24 hours to record ultrasound waves resulting in a continuous stream of heart images.

The images are later run through an AI component which segments the images and calculates factors that can indicate heart disease. Even more innovative, the wearable patch can be used during physical exercise, allowing for ultrasound measurement in entirely new conditions!

Why do we think it’s important? We highly support increasing access to medical systems and devices! Any innovation like this allows the patients to receive the care they need regardless of their place of living or financial situation. We only hope the technology can be produced with low costs for the patients and in a responsible and trustworthy way.

Adobe automatically opted some users into its “content analysis” programme. The programme allows machine learning to analyse user-generated content and use the results to improve Adobe’s products.

It is still being determined what type of features are created with this data, but concerns were raised regarding their use to feed recently popular generative models. Make sure to opt-out if you don’t want to share your data!

Why do we think it’s important? GDPR introduced full transparency into where and why we shared our data and gave the power to the users. Automatic opt-in is against this freedom of choice; therefore, we share the news to raise awareness.
