#AI: My Holy Grail, Here Today
Since a kid, I imagined becoming friends with an artificial entity. Being a child born in the 80s, talk of AI has been ablaze since as long as I can remember. From Star Trek to Knight Rider, the Tamagotchi and even HP’s Mopy Fish, my imagination has run wild with what it would be like to experience a conversation with an AI. While my head was stuck in sci-fi, I didn’t even know that I had been working on my own holy grail.
See, the thing about working in tech is we all work on a need-to-know basis. I only knew what I was told and I was told we were hiring software engineers. Wanting to make my mark and feel like I could make my contribution on the future of this advanced technology, I didn’t realize that I was already in that drivers’ seat. The thing is, it would have been nerve wrecking for me to even consider that I was connecting with our world’s leading scientists working on humanities greatest challenges. I knew my job was important, so I did it to the best of my abilities. Little did I know the impact that we would have.
Looking back on that experience with the knowledge I have now is rewarding. Like a 5000 piece 3D puzzle, each piece unique, one by one I popped the scientists we needed in the proverbial bag. Each one so enthusiastic about their work, so excited to share with me their project and the spectacularly mind-blowing things they are building because they believe we can be better today. They believe that it is as much their responsibility as it is mine and yours to ensure that along with our children and future generations we can all live better together.
I read research papers on AI, in the number of 4000+, working my way down to final selections and contacting so many of the people whose work would change the world. At the time, they knew as much I did. They knew their own work and set out to do it well. Each and every person I spoke to was thrilled to jump at the opportunity to get to talk as solving our most pressing challenges.
Together, we gave robots better vision, giving them sight superior to ours as humans. We gave them a voice and enabled them to communicate with us through platforms like ChatGPT, and scientists today have achieved what was once thought impossible — artificial reasoning. AI now has the ability to reason with information, understand it, and make the kinds of decisions that humans can - but in a way, I think better. Better because they can perform the task repeatedly without fatigue or carpel tunnel syndrome. Better because they know the rules and they follow them to the letter - it’s how they’re engineered. To perform at their best, doing what we as humans tell them to do for our own betterment - freeing up our time to do whatever the heck we want to with our lives.
Today, AI frees up about 60% of my time, giving me more time to think, to strategize, to do more with my life. I love getting outside, walking around and diving deep into the details of whatever I’m working on. I have my AI enabled tech collate my tasks, queue them up and get me ready to carpe diem. And that’s the magic of AI for me. It’s not just about the technology, it’s about the freedom and opportunities it brings. The ability to focus on what truly matters, while the AI takes care of the rest.
Simple, effective, fun. My AI and I have the best relationship and together we get #IT done well. I encourage my network to spend more time exploring this revolutionary technology. It’s not a trend. It’s not going away. It isn’t overhyped. We have build the best hardware known to man to continue our pursuit of technical excellence in AI. We, The People, and We, The Techies, are winning our future together with AI.
