AI in Medicine – the need for scientific proof

IBM has a long legacy of employing scientific methods to the understanding of major health and societal challenges. At IBM Watson Health, this legacy continues, by focusing on applying services and next-generation data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI), so that people around the world can live better, healthier, and longer lives.

During the last couple of years, the world just got off the marks with healthcare and life sciences solutions based on AI and data. Clinicians and researchers still need to understand these solutions, they have to be convinced of their validity in order to start trusting them. We need to unpack the black boxes, remove data bias and make it explainable. We cannot avoid providing them with scientific evidence-based proofs, striving for FDA approval; a solution must at least live up to the golden standards they would normally deploy.

Looking back at 2019, IBM has published many papers underpinning the evidence, the sensitivity and specificity of its solutions. All this scientific proof has been collected in close collaboration with many healthcare and life sciences institutes, hence professionals and researchers around the world.
