AI May Replace Your Job, But It Won't Replace You

Open AI's chatbot, ChatGPT, is taking the world by storm. Since it was unveiled in November, ChatGPT is estimated to have reached over 100 million active users, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history. Its rapid success led Google - synonymous with 'online search' - to stumble out of the gate with its own version, called Bard.
Google executives aren't the only ones fretting. Alarm bells are ringing about jobs being replaced by AI. Job categories from teachers to accountants, lawyers to graphic designers are predicted to lose out to AI according to articles written since the release of ChatGPT.
Other articles declare some jobs will never be replaced by AI, like psychiatrists, surgeons, and clergy. An article written by Chan Priya described why AI will not replace humans.
"Robots will never replace most jobs that require a specific combination of?rational thinking, common sense, flexibility, manual dexterity, worldly and special knowledge, empathy, and communication skills.
And people prefer and trust humans over machines for all jobs which require?judgment, decision-making, and complex reasoning.
Because no machine can replace a?REAL HUMAN,?any job that requires the?human heart?and?brain?will?NEVER?be fully automated."
Never is a long time. For the foreseeable future, though, AI will not replace compassion, empathy, intuition, a smile, and other soft skills which are increasingly in-demand workplace skills. These are all part of who we are and why we succeed.

Twenty-five years ago I was told my role as an executive search professional would soon be obsolete because of online job boards like Monster. Monster's job board has evolved since then - and so have I. I'm more productive because of tools like Monster and the executive search industry has never been stronger. ChatGPT and Bard are programmed to learn and evolve. People who are resilient and agile learn and evolve as well.
Like productivity tools that came before, AI will be used to make people more valuable in the workplace, not less. So while the job one holds today may go by the way of AI, the person will not.
As an aside, the image I used for this article was generated by Dall-E, an AI-powered program that creates images from natural language instruction. You may or may not like the image. After all, beauty is in the eye of the (human) beholder.

9 个月Learning from this article, Dull Jobs for Human Dead: Robots Redefine Future of Work, of The Waves, these additional issues need to be taken into consideration: How can we empower remote workers to leverage AI as a tool rather than a competitor? How can we cultivate human skills and values that AI cannot replicate, such as ethics, compassion, and creativity? How can we ensure that AI is aligned with human goals and values, and not the other way around? Let me welcome your view.

1 年Totally agree Randy. The challenge for professionals will be are they staying up with how to leverage these tools to be more effective? If not, we will be replaced by those professionals who do. That seems like an obvious conclusion. ??
