AI and Marketing: The work-around

The Internet is buzzing with excitement about ChatGPT and the idea that artificial intelligence is now available for small-scale business endeavors. Within the marketing industry, the task of content development has become a huge challenge over the last 10 years. The digital marketing machine is a voracious monster ready to devour any brand that fails to shovel enough quality content into it at an ever-increasing rate. AI seems like it could be a helpful tool in this endeavor if it were not for a single fatal flaw: AI is not creative. Not yet anyway. It has no new perspectives. It only draws from the data it’s been trained with. It cannot enrich the quality of information available online. The very best it can do is create nice clean variations on what already exists.??


Knowing a technology’s weakness is the key to getting the most out of it. As such I propose that tools like ChatGPT can and will be helpful, as long as we lean into its strengths and avoid its bare patches. If AI is not currently creative, then as marketing professionals, we need to supply the creativity and let the technology do the implementation.??


Here is one way I just used ChapGPT to create original creative content for marketing that enables you to do the creative work and lets the software do the rest. Come up with a topic that you would like to use for a blog/SM article. Ideally, it’s a topic that you know well and don’t need to do any research on. Shoot a 2-minute video with your unique perspective on the topic using a cheap webcam. Upload the video to youtube (it’s fine to be unlisted if you want).? Copy a transcription of the video from youtube into your clipboard. Enter the following command into ChapGPT: “Write an article based on the following transcription:” then paste in your transcription. Based on my experimentation I could go from concept to finished project in about 10 minutes.


This solution is the best of both worlds.? You end up with a truly unique piece based on creativity you provide while ChatGPT does what it does best.
