Will AI Make QA Folks Void? ChatGPT Spoke ??
There is widespread uncertaintly and fear out there about how Artificial Intelligence (AI) will impact our lives, including in the field of QA. People are concerned about issues such as misinformation, patents, intellectual property, and very often: widespread job displacement.
AI is shaking the foundation and disrupting many industries and communities. This raises the question: How are people in the software industry feeling about these changes?
Call centers and customer service roles seem to be one of the most affected ones. However, it is not only these support-related positions that are at risk; even more sophisticated roles, such as those in software production, are being scrutinized, especially junior positions ??.
At Abstracta, we often discuss the implications of AI on the software industry, particularly with regard to the role of software testers and quality engineers. As AI systems become more capable of coding and deploying complex applications, one might assume that the role of the human tester would diminish. On the contrary, we believe that the software tester's role may become even more critical in this new landscape.
?? Last week I asked ChatGPT about this on Qualitas Day, take a look at this ??

?? Ensuring the quality and reliability still requires and human touch
Artificial Intelligence has been around for a long time, but the viralization of ChatGPT has awakened excitement about the capabilities, challenges, and opportunities it brings. We should not be oblivious to it.
I truly believe that it's critical for people to continually develop and hone these skills to add value and be able to make a positive impact.
I'm super curious about what testers and quality-related peeps think about the future of their jobs! Mind sharing your thoughts in the comments? Much appreciated ??

1 年Interesting and somewhat puzzling. Honestly, I don't think about the disappearance of the tester but about an adjustment of the role. Perhaps more focused on exploring and exploiting the tools that may come, to then recycle the role. Thank you!
As AI takes on more coding, testing of code and apps, functional and non functional, will become a must and super-critical and for the reasons you suggest. However, currently, I also think that generated code still needs to be carefully reviewed by developers. Testers will have to leverage AI capabilities in development (in forrester we call these #TuringBots) to just do a better and faster job. Building and testing with TuringBots in the loop will be the next gen of development.

1 年First of all, this is a great topic to discuss! I have to admit that I was a little unconcerned about Generative AI, until I went to the Campus Party event the last month. I thought that it was just a group of cool tools to talk to a bot and get a cool response similar to a real person. When I went to this event I found myself in a weird position, I knew nothing about generative AI and all the tools that are available in the market right now. I discovered there that this is really the future, and this will affect almost all the current jobs. The advance on this is huge, this is evolving too fast! My first impression was : "wow! ok, what should I do to still be valuable for the companies and to not lose my job? ?? ". My biggest fear is that you can ask to a AI tool : "Hey, can you create a test automation project to cover all the possible scenarios of this functionality for this project?" and boom! There you have! And I think it's just a matter of time ??
