AI and Leadership

In a recent coaching conversation, one of my clients felt overwhelmed with how his role as a regional head has become more demanding with implementing AI and how it’s slowly becoming business as usual #BAU. This reminded me of our fantastic conversations during an incredibly informative and thought-provoking session with Siddhartha Paul Tiwari, FRAS, an award-winning educator and technologist working with #GoogleAsiaPacific, Singapore, at last month's Asia Organization Development Network (AODN) ????????????????
Siddhartha shared many interesting facts, information, and examples during the session. One key concept that resurfaced during my coaching conversation was the idea of #FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and the importance of #serviceleadership. Siddhartha highlighted how the rapid integration of AI and other emerging technologies often triggers FOMO among business leaders and employees alike. This fear can lead to hasty decisions and increased anxiety, which, if not appropriately managed, can stifle innovation rather than foster it.
Reflecting on these insights and my recent executive coaching conversation, I journaled some points that might come in handy for everyone navigating the complexities of current times:
1. Understanding and Addressing FOMO
It's crucial to "acknowledge the fear" of missing out on the latest technologies or trends. Recognizing and validating this fear can prevent rushed decisions and burnout. Setting realistic goals for integrating AI tools is equally important. Establish clear, achievable objectives and prioritize initiatives based on their potential impact and feasibility.
2. Emphasizing Service Leadership
As information and resources become more readily available, the role of a leader is evolving to become more of a "provider" or someone who serves the team. This leadership style prioritizes a #humancentric approach, creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard.

3. Implementing Structured Processes
Using methodologies and tools to design structures and processes helps the team approach experimentation and implementation with clarity. It also helps reduce ambiguity and makes things flow faster in a systematic order.
4. Managing Change and Building Resilience
Encouraging resilience by approaching situations with a #growthmindset, leading by example by learning from setbacks, and encouraging experience-sharing conversations amongst the team helps everyone stay connected and anchored.
5. Bridging the Gap between Knowing, Doing and Being
Acquiring knowledge and skills is easy; however, embodying the mindset required to put that knowledge and skills into practical use is essential. Hence, inspiring action and fostering a culture where learning is not just an organizational practice but a way of #being is necessary.
?? These were interestingly #reflective conversations for me. Would you like to add your learning experience on AI and Leadership?

The acknowledgment of FOMO as a significant factor in decision-making underscores the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership. Emphasizing service leadership aligns with the shift towards more empathetic and inclusive leadership styles, fostering environments where innovation can thrive. Structured processes and resilience-building strategies provide a solid foundation for navigating change effectively. Great share, Medhika Sood
